Probably on purpose too. This show probably has the most naturalistic dialogue out of any Star Trek series.

Oh dear every time a new Trek show comes out all the people who want to complain pop out the woodwork.
Like this guy
I'm sure he speaks for all fans. /s
I had no idea what this show was about till I poked around and I kind of like it from what I have discovered. I'll wait till its available on some streaming service locally.
I disagree.. but I was referring mainly to how it is delivered.. like the characters had too many sweet tarts, the editors got rid of natural breaths taken between each sentence.. because we are such a huge hurry to get to the next oh-so-brilliant scripted lineWhoa. What a completely unexpected statement out of you. I said sarcastically.

i'm just gonna quote myselfit's Kurtzman's way of getting some numbers in his favor after Picard lost half its audience by the time the last episode was broadcast.
another lost sheep that was lead astray by the alex jones of trek midnight edge how sad...
For the early 21st century perhaps XDThis show probably has the most naturalistic dialogue out of any Star Trek series.
That's why she keeps getting transferred and/or demoted, and her parents don't like her, and Boims doesn't wanna be her friend,... right? XDYet she is always solving all the problems.. and she is talented at everything the script needs her to be good at, and she reminds the other characters and the audience that she is just that.. so yea.. mary sue
Tom Paris definitely wasn’t a Mary Sue. I don’t think anyone would ever call him that either. Mariner is just...ugh.Oh great, the Mary Sue thing again.
Mariner is emphatically not a Mary Sue. She's got plenty of practical knowledge and experience, but she's stuck in a dead-end job because she's reckless and won't follow the rules.
She's basically the original conception of Tom Paris - street smart, but failing to live up to the expectations placed on her by her high-flying parent, always bailing her by-the-book young friend out of various scrapes.
No one ever called Tom Paris a "Mary Sue".

Luke was a Mary Sue........."Mary Sue" is the cry of butthurt fanbois of many franchises around the globe.
Luke was a Mary Sue.........![]()
I could make that argument without hesitation. I would be quite wrong but I could find similar points to what is being made around Mariner. As a certain famous show once said "You can use logic to justify anything." So it goes with these arguments. Rather pointless, if you have me.I don’t think anyone would ever call him that either.
No but he was pretty much always competent at everything so by the logic of the Internet he is a Mary Sue.Tom Paris was hated by Chakotay and other crew members in the very first episode, and he was being rescued by other crew members a number of times in season 1. Although he was kind of cocky in his piloting ability, he didn't really come off like he thought he was better than everyone else, sticking up for Harry in the first episode and beyond.
