All Good Things

I was browsing this website and found alot of people seem to think All Good Things was the best season ending and the DS9 ending was the worst.

...and that End Game as bad.

I actually think End Game was the best, sure they should have had another two eps showing them at home.

But AGT was:

-A stupid plot (an anomaly paradox...come on!)
-The time travel was depressing (in spite of the cool ships the upgraded Enterprise D and the Pasture)

I can name dozens of better episodes so I'm dying to know why people like this one so much?

I never liked AGT--I didn't like the time travel, I didn't like the answer to it all at the end, I didn't like the future selves of the characters--esp Data, I didn't like Denise Crosby coming back, and I didn't like Picard joining the poker game at the end.

I'm kind of curious--what DID people like?

I guess the look into the "future" and seeing some cracks between the crew was interesting. Gave the whole thing a final feel to me in a way. And while time travel as a concept may have been overused, it gave the episode an epic feel that I felt was fitting for a finale.
What I really liked was how they worked in the very beginning and the Farpoint mission as well as Q. That was a neat way to have a sort of retrospective as well as rounding things up.

And of course the poker game at the end. That was a beautiful scene.

I thought that AGT was a nice way to wrap up the series.

I certainly don't think that What You Leave Behind was the worst.

Everyone knows that TATV was.

I don't really think of TATV as the finale, than a coda, giving ENT an historical contect within the modern Trek universe. Terra Prime, for me was the finale of ENT, showing that the one last obstacle to overcome before reaching the final frontier is Humanity itself. I thought that was an appropriate way to end the series.

In my time on this board I actually NEVER came across THAT opinion.

I actually liked the Poker scene, one of the few I did like.

I didn't like how they tied in to what was one of the most boring missions in the entire 7 years, the Farpoint mission.
I always liked Q but wasn't very enthusiastic about seeing him in the final episode.

The DS9 finale was the worst becase of the overrelance on the religious aspect, which, while it put an intresting angle on religion (the gods actually being aliens) was very over done, and because it split the entire crew up.

I agree that as far as episodes go, AGT simply wasn't very good. However, I would say that the final scene is about as good as it gets.

I despise AGT.

To waste a finale' with time travel & pointless guest appearances

Instead of a 2-part inane thing like AGT, they should have come up with a 'mini-arc' that could finish an existing theme of the show.

The Romulan Unification or the cardasians or even come up with a new plot-line that would be told in a mimi-series like fahion. Throw in some nice action, maybe end with the crew going separate ways.
Maybe even include a nice little farwell by Q--but for gods sake not the 'sickly-sweet' mess we got.

Look 3 nacelles, look Picard married Crusher--oops it didn't work out, look data is a professor, look O'Brien is back from 'Farpoint..' only he's 30 pounds heavier & 7 years older. Look it's Tasha..... again:rolleyes:

Expensive, epic & without a whit of gravitas or tension.
Look Picard's playing cards with them. yawn.

TATV was a good episode. I could have done with less of the Enterprise crew but I guess it was their series. As a finale, well it really wasn't theirs was it. I felt bad for the fans because I think they were robbed of a decent finale to their show.

DS9 I didn't see much of after season two started since I didn't like it. So I don't have anything to say there.

Voyager was 90210 in space and End Game was about the best they were going to get. Not bad, some resolution.

AGT is still in the top 3 finales of ALL shows! An awesome 2 hours that I wish was longer. The poker scene at the end still gets me after all these years. The tie-in to the premier was a nice touch.

How does this explain your statement?

It doens't,
It shows me quoting the wrong post

I get the sense from this and another board I read that people like AGT, and the writers and producers said it was the "superiour effort" between Generations and AGT.
I can't beleive anyone would think that.

Well, I do. ;) I think it's the best series finale of them all.

Yes but we've already established that your crazy;)

End Game was far better, it still had the time travel but actually tied up some loose ends, and there was an actual purpose to the time travel, as opposed to destroy an anomoly that would not have existed if he had not went through time to begin with.
Dog chasing it's tail.

Anyone who would judge the finales of all the series by such superficial criteria clearly misses the point of the series.

I always liked the social commentary/moral of the story aspect of ST alongside the cool space stuff if thats what your talking about, but there was little of either in AGT, apart from Q's philisophical quip about exploration at the end.

1701 you havn't given any reason why you think it was good?

AGT's story is a little dull in places, but the awesome last 5 minutes elevates it to best ST finale ever status. :p

I think that your interest in the characters will define whether you like a Series Finale or not.

In my case, AGT was great because it kept the theme of what TNG was about (You're out here so you can improve yourselves). Of course, I like all the characters in TNG, even Tasha, and I don't care that O'Brien is 30lbs heavier, this is a stupid thing to say. People get older, they have families and obligations, and can't put in the time at the gym, or whatever it is. I like the character and I don't mind if he doesn't look exactly the same.

I also like how Data was a faithful and loyal friend to Picard, even after the others weren't. Even Worf showed more loyalty than others.

I also happen to love the Refit Enterprise D, my name ain't GalaxyX for nothing lol. I don't care if other people hate it.

The only thing I hated was how Picard and Beverly got together only to come apart again, but it's a minor quibble.

DS9 may be the best Trek, TOS may be the most endurable Trek, but TNG had the best finale, better than both shows.

"All Good Things" is so good, all movies coming after it (with FC brilliant exception) pale in comparison.

Just watched All Good Things last night as a matter of fact. Couldn't believe how perfect of an ending it was, and how much better than their first movie attempt was, too.

It was great in showing us where we started with the show and where we were now (re-introducting Data in the past was so well done, Brent Spiner truly is a talent playing both versions of the character so different, but still true). And I thought grouchy old Picard was a hoot to watch.

The science may have been flawed, but it was still pretty original and unique. I really do think this was the best episode of the series, the characters and acting were all in top form.

And only because Endgame was brought up, that episode was the final nail in the coffin and solidified the thought that, yes, I wasted 7 years of my life watching that wretched show. But I have only myself to blame.
