Yeah, well for us! but that predator thing? In that 2010 Predators movie they got pet hounds that look nearly as ferocious.

I'm not a Predator but I will tell you even smaller creatures are scary too.
Regardless, for the Predator it might be like a relaxing vacation over hunting serious game. Who knows? Predators are not exactly the most exciting aliens.

I mean, it's a fair point, but then it's just like I'm watching some nature documentary. I guess that makes sense of it canonically, but it still doesn't make it all that thrilling on a dramatic level for me. It lacks that other-worldly quality some of the other incarnations had. I dunno, maybe I'm expecting too much from a franchise that's kind of been milked to death as it is. Is there really a way to capture the same sense of awe anymore, from something we've been watching do the same thing for ages now?
I get the feeling these creators might have known that, & it might be why this movie, more than any of the others, focused a lot more on the personal stuff between characters, instead of just on this being another group of randos being hunted

In regards to Predators hunting small creatures, check out the bones that the Predator wears in the first movie. Got some teensy skulls on display there.

Ignoring all of AvP is my preference.
It's not so much the size, as it is the lack of formidability. I mean the bear wasn't even that small, but its formidability to hunt for such a being, seemed ... meh.
Honestly, until now, I kind of held onto the fantasy that The Predator only hunted creatures that were at least as intelligent & formidable as humans, something that's cognitive capacity is closely akin to itself, & even if they had been carry tiny skulls on them, those too might have fit that bill.
I mean why bother traversing the vast distances of space to come hunt stuff that's not even all that developed? It always seemed like they wouldn't waste their time on something less intelligent than a human on our world, which is why the 2010 Predators actually abducted humans to bring back for a hunt
Yeah, I think this one was either young, inexperienced, weak, or just a punk. It takes even some Predator balls to take on a pyramid filled with acid-blooded xenomorphs. So much so that when you bag one, you get to tattoo yourself with its blood. It was, coincidentally, the ugliest Pred we've seen yet. Maybe that was the Predator short-bus that dropped it off?
Or maybe Predators start out with the smaller, less-challenging stuff and eventually work their way up to Xenomorphs and T-rex.

To play devil's advocate here wouldn't it be like hunting exotic prey? Intelligence level is the factor, at least not for all hunters. And isn't it a bit Star Trek in our thinking that all Predators are hunting for the same reasons?
Hell, I find smaller creatures scarier than big ones. I'd much rather face down a bear than accidently piss off a black widow spider. At least with a bear you have a better chance of seeing it coming, and you have a pretty good of scaring it off, but with a black widow, there's an equally good chance you're probably not going to see it before it bites yoi. And if they do get you, I'm pretty sure being mauled by bear would be a much quicker death than a black widow bite.
Prey had the biggest premiere of any single release on Hulu ever. I honestly didn't realize The Predator franchise was that popular.
^ I kind of did. Predator is a pretty big IP, & I have no problem saying Prey is a welcome addition, even if some parts of it fall a little flat for me. There's been much worse outings, for sure.
I mean scary or not, no one goes hunting for poisonous spiders, & to a futuristically armed being from a spacecraft, that can nuke whole swaths of land, a wolf is as insignificant as hunting a bug imho
Anything's possible I suppose, but Predator 2 & Predators kind of suggested something of a group mentality to what they're doing. Personally, I find it much more interesting to consider them on the hunt for the cosmos' most special species. Planetary apex predators, like we are. I even took that Predator's pistol gift to Danny Glover as something of a nod to when they actually began taking an interest in hunting us specifically. Until then, this planet shouldn't even be of interest to them. I mean, maybe? If you study the history of hunting by humans there are always a variety of reasons why. Some of the elitist Predators may like finding special species but some might just like the experience. Why can't they be both, intergalactic hunters for special species, and more average ones who enjoy a trip to exotic locales and some new hunting grounds?

As for Predators, the big ones are not that interesting. Someone needs to mix it up otherwise they're just a new take on old monster movies.

If you want to do a prequel, set it in like '68 in Vietnam, & have it wipe out whole companies on both sides, & the only survivors are 1 Viet Cong & 1 American who only make it because they're tunnel rats, & have to work together, once they figure it out, & if you really want to work that diversity angle, have the Viet Cong be a woman, like the sniper in Full Metal Jacket, hard as nails, & when the whole thing is over, she just looks at the American & says "Now go home" & he just... does. Roll credits.

Changing the Predator's weapon put me in mind of a hunter today who chooses to use a bow instead of a gun. The bone mask and its fighting style further suggests a more savage, hands on type so I wasn't trying to compare it with the Predator from the other movies and took it on its own terms.
I figure it was the first time that particular Predator or Predators in general to visit Earth for a hunt so they're unfamiliar with the creatures on this planet. So he moves up through the wildlife and takes worthy trophies, first the snake skeleton ( which he then discards), then the Wolf wh puts up a short fight and finally a bear who provides some challenge for short while.
Best prey for him though are humans, they have intelligence and ( low tech) weapons.
Mind you that he's not in full body armor, in fact they are usually only armored in certain parts ( Helmet, underarm and maybe a little bit of chest) so he can be wounded without too much effort and even a low tech arrow will do some damage.
Also while he's huge and strong doesn't mean he's fast so to me it's believable that a nimble fighter might get a hit or two in before the Predator can land a hit on his own ( which will then cause a big dent in the opposing fighter).
I don't see the difference. But I'm probably the wrong person to ask.
That's my thoughts as well.
