Alex Kurtzman: 'Star Trek: Discovery' Will Spark Debate And Adhere To Canon

Wasn't there a recording of him in "Terra Prime?"

Yeah, but that was barely visible. Pity that they had to waste a perfectly good Trek actor (Steve Rankin) on a washout scene like that.

I'm wondering if Rankin was supposed to play Green in the initial ENT arc (before Spiner came along) and they decided to keep him handy if they ever needed to use Green again. Who knows, his speech may have been originally a part of that earlier episode...

It begins to feel like it after a while though. More Klingons, Mudd, Sarek, Spock's adoptive sister. It makes things feel cramped.

If the show focuses only on old things, yeah, that would get a bit, er, old. However, I suspect they'll mix in plenty of new characters and ideas as well.

I have yet to see a conflict that could not be explained.

I don't care if they can explain it or not.

This looks like an enjoyable Star Trek series. When it starts I'm going to see if I can stick to discussing the show without reference to any other Trek series, movie or product whatever.

Or, maybe it just wasn't a big enough deal to make a fuss over.

Why is it that every time someone brings something up on the Internet, someone else assumes they're "making a fuss" or being obsessed with it, rather than just making idle conversation? Did you miss the part where I said I was amused by it? (Although, granted, I was rather ticked off by it at the time.)

Oh, I didn't mean you were making an excessive fuss over it. Your amusement came through quite clear. :) I suspect when they read the script either the similarity wasn't apparent, the SFx were changed, or they didn't think it was worth mentioning.
