Honestly, I'd rather see a proper adaptation of the original Arabian Nights story than a live-action retelling, especially since it won't have Robin Williams, aka the best part of the Disney version.

Plus, I'm already getting tired of Disney's new trend to make live-action versions of their animated classics. I'm only interested in Lion King for its cast, Mulan, and Dumbo (and only because it's Tim Burton and it actually has a chance to be a better film since it'll have no racist crows).

It looks awesome. Disney has been doing a great job with their live-action adaptations and Aladdin has always been my favourite Disney film. In a better world Robin Williams would be reprising his role as The Genie, but I've got no problems with Will Smith taking the role. I'm psyched for a full-length trailer.

Heh.
"I'm tired of this trend.... except for the list of movies I want to see."

I've only seen Jungle Book (I think I saw 101 Dalmatians way back when) and I really liked that. I have no problems with these updates, we know what we're getting so they're easy to skip if we're not feeling it.

I can see myself seeing Aladdin, I enjoyed the animated version well enough to give it a shot. Teaser doesn't give much except for tons of CGI, but again, there shouldn't be many surprises regardless.

Yeah, yeah, I knew that was coming. The difference being I'm only curious about those three as oppose to wanting them and seeing the need for them. A fine line, I suppose, but there it is. Doesn't take away that it already feels tiresome.

I get it. The way many of us may have grown up on animated Disney, this is how the latest generation is probably going to do it, I guess. Updates can always feel redundant to us older folk.

Will Smith in full bombast might be a suitable substitute for Robin Williams take on the Genie. (Mind you, I've only seen it once but from what I remember I can see it working.)

I really enjoyed The Jungle Book, Cinderella, and Beauty and the Beast, so I have no problems with them doing more of these. Aladdin was one of my favorite movies growing up, so I'm really looking forward to this one.
I was hoping for more from out first teaser, but I did like what we saw there.
It definitely is disappointing Robin Williams isn't around any more, but we have got a good Genie from Dan Castellaneta, and from what I've seen James Monroe Iglehart from the original cast for the musical was great too.

I'm confident Will Smith will be able to pull it off, and I look forward to seeing what his versions of A Friend Like Me and Prince Ali are like.

The Jungle Book (2016) was a fine film.

As for this film, well, can't really tell of course. But they are clearly playing up the idea in this teaser, if not reassuring people, that it will be a live-action version of the cartoon's story (cf, the announcements regarding the non-traditional nature of the retelling of the story).

On May. 19th, 2019

OK, but the trailer says May 24, 2019 (well, 5/24/19). Either way, someone needs to remind them that no date in May, 2019 will be in the summer.

Jungle Book, Beauty and the Beast and Pete's Dragon were very well done (still haven't seen Cinderella). Looking forward to this one. I agree with many here that while it won't be quite the same without Robin Williams, Genie's in good hands with Will Smith.

I'm still disappointed they couldn't use the (apparently many hours) of unused Williams recordings from the animated version.

Coupled with a little of the stuff from the first film, it sounds like there would have been more than enough for a fresh run at it, and I'd say a fitting tribute.

They probably want to use an on-set mocap performance.

I've really liked the live-action versions of The Jungle Book and Beauty and the Beast, but this trailer didn't really do much for me. I'm hoping it's just because it's short.

Jungle Book was good. Beauty and the Beast felt a little too well worn for my liking. The only thing I really enjoyed was Kevin Kline as Maurice, and a little more depth on the Beast.

The other thing that has a knock on Beauty and the Beast is the fact that it's actually not a unique property. Disney has their own adaptations, but there are plenty of other versions. I know of at least one other version on Netflix for instance.

Well, that's true with just about all of the Disney films. Either they're classic fairy tales or 19th/20th century novels.

True enough :) I guess it's just that Beauty & The Beast has been done more often. Do we know if The Lion King is also based on a fairy tale?
