Every time I've asked ChatGPT to write some episode of some TV show, it's been similar. They write something which gets the characters and their relationships right, but offers no real original insight. It's like in Elementary, Dear Data in the iteration before Geordi asks for a mystery that could defeat data. A mishmash of elements from existing material. With nothing surprising or subversive.

We've created great imitators that under the right light look creative. Ask them to create a new Star Wars movie, they'd give us Force Awakens.

I don't think it's ready as a complete replacement. At this point, I use it for boilerplate code at work, and then I build on top of it specifics. It's great to kickstart work. It's not ready to bring something to completion without work. So it's essentially a productivity tool. I can do now more in less time.

Speaking of Star Wars, I gave it an idea of a post Skywalker story and it gave me a quite interesting idea

I used it last week to compose a draft email from my boss to the whole accounting department to announce an upcoming reorg. Normally, I would come up with something "original," but I was swamped and trying to get caught up on other tasks after coming back from my cruise and brief illness.

It was quite professional, and it captured the message that was meant to go out. I tried not to copy the text verbatim, but rather condensed it and used my own verbiage.

Exactly, it's a time saver. I'm surprised it's not being used in paralegal work to search for related precedents and such yet. It could help solve the issue of public defenders being so overstretched poor defendants don't get real due process.

It is a time saver, however, Chat isn't secure, far from it, and a lawyer can't enter specifics of a case into an unsecure area, Client/lawyer privilege etc. So I do agree, search relevant docs, but honestly a google search for whatever case specifics would come up with the same.
Plus lawyers are just as .. protective?... of there jobs like the current writers strikes, they had a pilot program where an Ai bot would do some basic lawyer stuff, speeding ticket, etc. about 20 bar associations threatened to sue the company. they canned it.
So agree with the PD Office, they have like 100 clients per lawyer, that is seemingly never ending.. Any help etc.

The National Post kind of maximized their clickbait by including the "extinction" statement release in one paragraph in the article, thereby "justifying" its inclusion in the headline. But the actual legislation that Bengio is encouraging us to act quickly on (C-27 / AIDA) is more concerned with consumer protection and protecting human rights than it is about evil robots crushing our skulls underfoot after launching nuclear armageddon. :)

I tried out ChatGPT with the development of a rather convoluted color scheme for some charts I need. I'd been at it for a few days beforehand but just wasn't getting the right balance. Didn't have much hope of ChatGPT getting me over the finish line, but I was wrong. Over the past two days we were engaged in a back-and-forth in which I indulged every anal-retentive / OCD impulse. It was remarkable how specific / descriptive I was able to get, with ChatGPT providing updated suggestions instantly as we refined the scheme.

The thing I appreciate most is it kept me focused on the look I was going for, rather than getting frustrated and trying something wholly different / starting over.

It's funny, I couldn't help but feel concern at times I was annoying it with my ceaseless quest for perfect. I even found myself telling it I was taking a break for dinner (make sure you take the time to enjoy your dinner, apparently!). Overall a surprisingly engaging experience.

I did find time for some silliness tho:

    ------------------

It's only been two weeks. I need to talk about this. I have to justify what's happened, what I've done, at least to myself. I can't talk to anyone else. Not even to Dax. Maybe if I just lay it all out in my log, it'll finally make sense. I can see where it all went wrong. Where I went wrong. I suppose it started two weeks ago -

ChatGPT: I'm here to listen and help you process your thoughts and feelings. Please feel free to share with me what's on your mind and I'll do my best to assist you.

You mentioned that it all started two weeks ago. Can you tell me more about what happened? What was the situation or event that triggered this need for justification?

While I was posting the weekly casualty list in the wardroom. Every Friday morning for the past three months, I've posted the official list of Starfleet personnel killed, wounded or missing in the war.

ChatGPT: I see. It sounds like you've been in a difficult and emotionally taxing situation, having to deal with the casualties of the ongoing war. It's understandable that you would feel the need to process your emotions and thoughts about what's been happening.

Can you tell me more about how you've been feeling about the war and the casualties you've been seeing? How has this affected you personally?

It's become something of a grim ritual around here. Not a week goes by that someone doesn't find the name of a loved one, a friend or an acquaintance on that damned list.

ChatGPT: I can imagine how difficult it must be to bear witness to the toll the war is taking on those around you, and how hard it must be to see people you care about being affected. It's important to acknowledge the impact that the war and the casualties are having on you, both emotionally and mentally.

Have you been able to talk to anyone about your feelings regarding the war and the casualties? It can be helpful to have a support system and to talk through difficult emotions with someone who understands and can provide a listening ear.

    I've grown to hate Fridays.

ChatGPT: It's understandable that Fridays have become difficult for you given the association with the casualty list. It's important to recognize the impact that the war is having on your emotional well-being and to take steps to take care of yourself.

Have you considered seeking out any support resources, such as counseling services or support groups, to help you cope with the emotional toll of the war? It can be helpful to talk to someone who is trained to provide support and guidance during times of stress and trauma.

    it's a FAAAAAAAKE

ChatGPT: I'm sorry, I'm not sure I understand. Can you please clarify what you mean by "it's a fake"?

That's what Sisko should have said.

I see. It sounds like you may be referencing a situation or dialogue from a specific episode or scene of Star Trek. While I'm a language model and have access to a vast amount of information about Star Trek, I'm not able to understand the context of your reference without more information. If you'd like to share more about what you're referring to, I'm here to listen and help you process your thoughts and feelings about it.

    I think we're done.

Alright, if you feel like you've reached a good stopping point in our conversation, please feel free to end the session. If you have any further questions or concerns in the future, don't hesitate to reach out. Take care.

You may have already seen this on Twitter or elsewhere. A producer for TSN decided to try to use AI text-to-video tool Runway to create a commercial for the Toronto Blue Jays baseball team.

    Things did not end well.

Please note, some of this imagery is very disturbing. It is basically nightmare fuel. It's not for the faint of heart, so keep that in mind before you click the link. But if you still want to see it, here it is:

As a new AI art aficionado, I've seen a lot of really good artwork generated, I mostly credit the users for their cleverness and creativity, especially in developing the prompts needed to get the desired results. Most of the apps and sites I've used are far from perfect.

So the Google AI testing kitchen told me my turn has arrived and I get to rest something...

Enter prompt for a song that I would like AI to create... And AI makes 2 twenty second songs I have to choose the better one.... Me a synthesizer playing musician like I am.. I go for the challenge.. it says download the songs if you want to keep them.. so they are in a music folder on my Google drive..

These are some of my prompts...

Zero beat goa dreamcatchers web sounds and noises

    Zero beat goa Dreamcatchers

Crispy clean up tempo dreamcatchers in liquid shimmers of light

The sounds of strings vibrating in a dreamcatchers web that bends time and space with liquid shimmers of shiny rapture.

Veggies beating and pounds on steal oscillator soundstage (this could not be created by AI)

These prompts related to the dreamcatchers is due to the theme this week in an event in my music group.. these songs on Google drive here are just 20 seconds long.. you can download as well..

Stable Diffusion by itself does not generate great images. You'd have to use different models and LoRAs to fine-tune the results.

I've been experimenting with SD Automatic1111. It's much more sophisticated than AI art apps like Nightcafe where you just enter the text prompts and choose a model or template to generate images. There's so much to learn. Someone suggested I use Controlnet for depth, line drawing, etc. Oh my! I'm not an artist or a programmer.

Just to clarify, Stable Diffusion does have the Text to Image, as well as Image to Image prompt. The web UI is a lot more dynamic, since you can add checkpoints, LoRAs, and other tools. Most apps and sites I've used don't have those features.
