AI / ChatGPT Discussion

Voyager used "bio gel packs" as part of the ship's computer system.

I remembered that and I honestly have to ask myself if any of these researchers were inspired by that when they were younger, just like communicators, tricorders, and self opening doors inspired previous generations.

I asked Chat GPT to write an Oscar acceptance speech.

Ladies and Gentlemen,

I am deeply honored and humbled to receive this prestigious award. I would like to express my gratitude to the Academy, my colleagues, and everyone who supported me throughout my journey.

I share this award with my fellow nominees, all of whom have contributed greatly to the art of filmmaking. I have learned so much from each and every one of you, and I am proud to be part of such a talented and dedicated community.

I would like to thank my family and friends for their unwavering support and encouragement. Without their love and encouragement, I would not be standing here today.

Finally, I would like to dedicate this award to [insert cause or person]. [Give a brief explanation about the cause or person and why they are important to you.]

Thank you again for this tremendous honor. I will continue to strive for excellence and to tell stories that move, inspire, and entertain.

Thank you.

I honestly don't get the fuss over ChatGP or any other "AI" application because it is not AI in the slightest sense.

All it does is collect information from the net and various other sources it has access to and formulate it into readable sentences, that might have been written like this by a human.

Now this is an achievement too, previously programs were not as sophisticated and were not able to do that. Using sources of information to give an output is essential on the road to a true AI but this program doesn't understand what it writes in the slightest, it just follows its instructions.

A human does the same in the first part but through its mental development from baby to child to adult it learns the context and will understand what it writes. Now give this 20 or 30 years more time including the possibility to use quantum computers in a few years and we might get something. Right now it's just a media darling to fill pages and get clicks to websites.

I view it in some ways as being like Google Translate. It can be fun to use for the proper applications, but it's arguably more fun to run things through too many layers until they become amusing gibberish. Taylor Swift doesn't want children who love trees, apparently. :D

But in terms of it being in danger of replacing traditional art, I honestly don't think it's there yet. I have seen some AI art that does look pretty cool and interesting, but a lot of the examples are kind of average to weird at best (due to limitations of the programs used). I understand that many traditional artists have valid concerns over how the programs sample inputs for a design, but I also feel like some of them are overreacting a bit.

I have been asking open AI chat to write a python program that can morph between my art images and make the MP4 with one of my songs.. it's having a lot of problems I have yet to get it to work weeks later... It's not doing it yet but I'm not going to give up lots of close ones just not really..

I played around with Fotor and Nightcafe and created 3 images, second one is a collage of 4 variations. Marilyn Monroe as the Borg Queen.

I didn't like the first anime style one but I think over the hour it has grown on me. It's not bad

Very cool. The AI art was a TikTok trend. I rather liked the images that were generated after I submitted several pictures of myself. Part Game of Thrones, part space opera.

I'll have to try that. I used Lensa for a fee. It was about $12 for a set of 50 images. Made some for my nephews too. :)

Ode to Mr. Spock, by ChatGPT AI

In his world of logic, calm and reason, Stands a man with ears that hint of treason, To emotions he is never a slave, But of his friendship, he is ever brave.

From Vulcan he hails, a land so severe, Yet to humans he is a friend, so dear, With his mind meld he can see what we cannot, A true and trusted friend, that's Mr. Spock.

His intellect and courage are beyond compare, In battles he fights with logic and flair, He reminds us that strength comes from within, And with his guidance, we always win.

His stoic expression hides a heart so true, His unwavering loyalty, to his crew, With every challenge, he helps us see, That logic and friendship can truly be.

So here's to you, dear Mr. Spock, A true and noble soul, that we cannot knock, Your legacy lives on, in hearts and minds, Forever inspiring, with your Vulcan kind.

People overestimate how far along AI actually is because it has gotten really good at writing things the way a human would write them.

They anthropomorphize it the same way they do for their cats and dogs when they show affection, projecting themselves into it. But really ChatGPT is a search engine with 50% better understanding of context that's good at grammar.

People also freak out in really weird ways. Elon and a few tech cohorts wanting laws to regulate the development of these tools because they fear they will outnumber us.
