Let it dwindle then. Or die. It's not TOS. I don't want it to be, or be innovative or a cultural zeitgeist. Unnecessary. And I never said it was.
But it's not exactly a good thing either. Source: every dwindling music career ever.
Mileage, etc.

Don't be silly, people stopped pooping and peeing in the 24th century.![]()
Yikes! Forget about going to the bathroom in a hurry. The poor actors inside these costumes...
TOS had the bad luck of being created 60 years ago and didn't have to work as hard given the poor resolution of TVs.
And this is why it will never innovate. No one wants it to be new, or fresh or inventive. Because the moment it dares to stray away it gets slapped around, told its not good enough and will never be like its perfect older brother, TOS. So, Discovery slinks back to its room and just muddles through. And the Disco people actually did something like this with the Klingons. And I raved about how much I like them. But people pissed and moaned and they regressed the design back to something closer to what was.
Finally, a future I can get behind!Don't be silly, people stopped pooping and peeing in the 24th century.

It will never be TOS-but it will always be slapped for not being so.
I see very few people with your point of view. And even when it does happen there is still the constant comparison game. That's not true at all. I'm all for innovation. But if you're going to innovate, don't advertise yourself as being part of the thing you're trying to distance yourself from.
No.If DSC was being billed as a 10-years-before prequel to TOS, then the producers should have tried to make it look like TOS with a more updated aesthetic.
oh not this shit again for fuck sake
Yeah I admit that was a bit harsh. But them seem to hate everything. It is an opinion about entertainment, is there really a "right" or "wrong" to it? Personal taste and all that.
That is what fans have demonstrated repeatedly that is what they want to buy. Abrams Trek, merchandising, fan films, Axanar even, all pointed the TOS way. I don't blame marketing at all-they went with what fans indicated. The problem was that, in my opinion, CBS didn't think DSC could stand on its own merits either as a self-contained show or a reboot of Star Trek, so they felt they needed to tie it into TOS to get more of an audience (no doubt an idea conjured up by their marketing department.) What they didn't seem to understand was that Star Trek fans will most likely watch the show regardless of whether it's a reboot or not, and if they don't watch it, it's not because it wasn't a prequel to TOS.
I tend to agree. There is no mandate for a TOS aesthetic even ten years prior.
No need to be rude. They’re free to discuss it until the mods say otherwise.i'm sorry but this shit has been ''debated'' for over 4 years now just GIVE! IT! UP! already no need to shitpost in another thread with ''muh tos aesthetic'' bullshit

Indeed. I may disagree but it's a legitimate point of discussion. No need to be rude. They’re free to discuss it until the mods say otherwise.
Sell more toys? And that's my point: if the marketing department said "Connect the show to TOS and you'll get more viewers and they'll buy more merchandise," and that actually happened, then I'd understand. But I don't think connecting DSC to TOS instantly created more viewers or helped sell more toys.
I'm looking at these uniforms and I'm starting to think there's some TMP influence.![]()

I don't think the marketing department said that. I think the leadership at CBS went with what they thought people wanted.
