Agents of SHIELD - Season 2 Discussion Threads. (Spoilers Likely)

May must've been somewhat quietly pleased that Bakshi and 33 had put themselves within reach and given her an Proper Excuse for venting about a Really Bad Day.

It's awfully convenient that fake May has the exact same body type and hair style and length as real May.

It sure is.

Anyone notice that the dance scene was totally disjointed? They kept switching between tango and regular ballroom dancing even though the music never changed (and it sounded wrong for everything they were doing).

I'm chalking it up to Coulson and May being totally out of practice with undercover work. They remember the dance moves perfectly, but not when to use them.

Was Coulson the only one in the room not wearing a tie?

I really liked this episode. It feels like SHIELD is getting its mojo back. There was lots of great character-driven dialogue in this one, and the interactions between the characters-- including the new ones-- was great. I loved Hunter's overture to Fitz and Fitz's awkward attempt at bonding. This is the sort of thing that made me love the show in the first place.

I also loved the reminiscing and nostalgia between May and Coulson, which was especially poignant given Coulson's repeated attempts to get her to discuss a contingency plan-- and then his throwing her own words back at her. And her idea of a contingency plan was heartbreakingly sweet.

The undercover scenes were hilarious. "That was May laughing. I think the worst of it is over now." :rommie: And Skye's remark that this was the most she ever heard May speak since she's known her. And, of course, May fighting her evil doppelganger in her underwear wasn't too hard to take either.

And now the evil mastermind has taken control of Raina. But I have a feeling that Raina will not be so easy to exploit. And I think this will bring her one step closer to siding with Coulson and SHIELD.

Still, to be blunt...considering how reluctant we seem to be to accept a redemption arc for Ward...would a "switch to the good guys" arc for Raina be any more believable?

I think--especially considering the teaser for next episode--we're looking at Raina trying her best to get back on top, by giving Coulson what he needs to knock Dr. Whitehall down a few pegs himself, for her payback.

BTW...the show seems to be building up to a major confrontation between Skye and her father. Considering the first time we get anything like a backstory on her, there was a...more-than-slight implication that she just...might...have...super-powers...perhaps the big dramatic encounter will lead to her unlocking them...?

S.H.I.E.L.D. has no legal right to hold Ward.

It is an on going criminal act to hold him against his will.

Unless of course he is not being held against his will at the moment.

My pre-coffee brain just flashed an image of Deanna Troi being hugged by Riker - thus, held against her Will!

:vulcan:

Yeeeeeeeeeeeah...considering how they're currently kinda outside-the-law...I don't think holding a HYDRA guy against his will tops the list of their legal worries, right now.

Ah, Ward is just tickled shitless to still be near Skye. Coulson could open the door wide and he would still be sitting on that bunk bed come the next day.

His obsession is hella creepy and him being all nice face to her makes it more so. Ward the calm, kind killer is way more creepy than Ward in Garrett guard dog mode.

^Don't get me wrong though, I liked the first half of that season but it just kept getting better and better IMO.

Well, I don't recall her killing anyone in cold blood, which seems to be the major hangup with Ward. She's clearly on the side of science rather than any personal scheme.

SHIELD's very existence is a crime. Holding Ward is a second crime, but they can't lock them up for more than their life anyway.

Something random occurred to me. What if back in Thor: The Dark World, Malekith's flagship had not crashed to the ground on him on Svartalfheim but instead on Earth? Do y'all think that the Dark Elves' cloaking technology is more or less advanced than that of S.H.I.E.L.D.?

But damn was that an awesome fight (especially the mid air spin/head vs table move)

That was awesome, I really didn't see that move coming. I thought she was just going to do a spin kick, not slam her head into the table.
I actually said "oh, f*ck!" out loud when that happened. That was hardcore for broadcast TV in general, and the show particularly. :rommie:

Well, she never wielded the actual weapon, sure...but frankly, a lot of her actions throughout the first season were pretty much all-but-direct acts of cold-blooded murder. Kidnapping people, subjecting them to mental and psychological torment (and sometimes physical), subjecting them to mind control and mind-breaking...yeah, that's pretty dark.

I mean, Hand and Koenig were just killed. Raina's victims oftentimes suffered through things that would make them beg for death.

I can't see Raina "switching to the good side" because at her core, she's amoral. In a way I think she's even more sociopathic than Ward. She may cooperate with the team out of mutual self interest, but they could never fully trust her.

That's pretty much how I see any future development with Ward going. Either he finds some way to his own personal redemption (probably at the cost of his own life) or he gets out and becomes like Raina. A free agent with no loyalties to anyone who just as often a help as a hindrance.

Well, Ward infiltrated and betrayed the team after earning their trust and has killed people in cold blood for the sake of convenience. He even tried to kill two of his friends, despite claiming to give them "a chance." Raina has her own agenda, apparently to do with learning about her origins, and hooked up with HYDRA because they had the resources she needed. Both types of characters have been redeemed in TV shows before, but I think Ward is just more hateable because of the betrayal.

Yeah, I didn't care for the whole HYDRA twist, along with the associated out-of-character behavior. In this episode and the last one it seems like everybody is back to being who they used to be.
