"Agent Carter" season one discussion and spoilers

Actually I like the way Peggy's double life fits into the standard superhero secret-identity paradigm, even though she's not a superhero. We haven't really had much of that in the MCU so far. Iron Man and Cap have public identities, Thor is just Thor, Banner is known by the authorities to be the Hulk, and everyone else is part of SHIELD. There have been some instances of people going incognito or hiding out -- Banner in the solo Hulk movie, Cap and Widow in TWS, Coulson's team in season 2 of their show -- but only to elude the authorities who knew their identities and activities. We haven't really had an ongoing scenario where a character conceals a crimefighting persona beneath a more neutral facade that's known to the public and the authorities.

In fact, Peggy doubles down on it, since she's got a public persona as a phone-company employee, a persona known to the government as a marginalized SSR employee, and a deeper secret life as a top-notch agent.

I suppose we'll get more secret-identity storytelling once Daredevil comes along, but I don't know about the other Netflix series. I know Jessica Jones's story was about being a retired superhero turned detective, and I assume the show would follow that structure. I don't think Luke Cage ever really had a secret identity -- he used a code name for a while, but that was just for show, and he was in it for the money, so I assume he'd want people to know what name to write on their checks. As for Iron Fist, he wears a mask, so I guess he has a secret identity, but I don't know the character well enough to be sure.

I was disgusted by the sentimental small universe syndrome that Batman was trained to Stop Ra's Al Ghul by Ra's Al Ghul because Ra's Al Ghul killed his parents.

Nolan made a stupid movie.

Even this is better...

And in a number of '40s movies and radio shows I've experienced lately, I've noted a real sense of modernism, an attitude that society was in a new, forward-looking age of science and reason and enlightenment and was on the verge of achieving great things now that it had outgrown the follies of the past.
Every generation re-invents the wheel and the club. Historical periods always seem more progressive when you look at them more closely and the present always seems less progressive when you look at it more closely. Not that there aren't Dark Ages and Renaissances, but every age manages to do at least something right. Even the current generation has managed to make outstanding progress in marriage equality.

The changes I'm seeing in America towards marriage equality happening now, should have occurred during the 1990s or earlier. It's quite similar to China getting a man in space 40 years after the Russians did it. Laudable, but what kept you?

Please lead the world faster America.

Below is a list of countries that still hand out the death penality for proven acts of homosexuality.

Yemen

Iran

Iraq

Mauritania

Nigeria

Qatar

Saudi Arabia

Somalia

Sudan

United Arab Emirates

Yes, that's a list of nations that would look to the U.S. for guidance, leadership, and inspiration.... :p

It should have happened in the 60s. It should have happened in 1776. It should never have been an issue.

Episode 7 is called SNAFU.

Is Agent Carter (the show) allowed to swear like that, or is it wise to try and make parents swear at their children who are asking for a definition, or have parents lie to their children who are asking for a definition of the word SNAFU?
