"Agent Carter" season one discussion and spoilers

I don't remember the thread, but I've remembered people always talking about it, which, to me, is somehow more appropriate.
Do you remember the thread about the 75-minute Director's Cut of "These Are The Voyages?"

I don't remember that one.
That's because it didn't exist. Gotcha. :D

TATV would have made for a better episode - provided the Riker/Troi scenes were left at exactly the same length. That would have allowed for a full length (or longer than full length) episode rather than a rushed episode that really only served to do two things (have Riker learn his lesson and have Trip die). I'm not going to pretend the episode would be well-received either way, but I am convinced it wouldn't have been hated as much.
While I didn't hate it as much as others did, I do think it was a major failure. But it could have been saved with an easy re-write. Instead of shoehorning it into a random TNG episode, the 24th century sequences should have been about Troi and Riker as teachers taking cadets on a field trip through the NX-01 in a museum. Trip's death was unnecessary and an example of the "shocking death of a major character" trope that we can all live without. And it was sad and boring that there was absolutely no changes among the characters in the intervening six years. Somebody should have gotten a promotion, at least. There could have been a hint of romance between Hoshi and Trip. Maybe an intriguing new character on the bridge. Something. A lot of missed opportunities.

That's nice. Do you have any thoughts on my argument, though?

Sure - nothing could have saved it. The whole concept was ill-considered, arrogant and insulting - insulting to fans and to the casts of two TV series - and so poorly-written that I can't believe grown-ups who called themselves professional writers did it. And I agree with Jolene.

And coming on the heels of a season of episodes that were actually very good because they weren't written by Berman and Braga, it only emphasized that a roomfull of monkeys vomiting on typewriters have more creativity than those hacks.

And I agree with Jolene.

The love thing was between Trip and T'Pol, not Hoshi. Hoshi could have fallen in love with Mayweather or Reed, instead.

And yet, people are beginning to love Enterprise over Star Trek and Star Trek Into Darkness, as well as clamoring for Berman & Braga to come back. (Not that I want both of them to, far from it, but it sure looks like that to me.)

Guys, please...I stay out of the Enterprise forum so I can pretend that the show never existed. You're spoiling the illusion....

^ I think part of the problem was the week off so we haven't had a lot to talk about. I'm sure this will die down when the episode airs.

And do you disagree with my contention that some of it was poorly written because it had to be squeezed in a very short period of time so it came off as contrived? I think having an hour and a half to address the Enterprise plot would have offered a greater opportunity to write things better. It's tough to squeeze these elements into what was ultimately about 20 minutes.

Did you enjoy any episodes from the first three seasons of Enterprise?

Yes, I actually meant Travis. No idea why I said Trip. Except maybe the "Tr" thing.

Almost anything would be better than nuTrek.

Hm. No, I really don't think more time would have helped. It just would have been more badness. I spent most of the ep wishing it would be over - more of wishing it would be over wouldn't be a good thing.

I really can't think of any - it's been a long time. There may have been one or two, and I tried really hard to give it a chance in the beginning. But ultimately I found it no better than Voyager. Coto's season 4 was refreshing and showed what could have been without Rick and the Bermanettes in charge, and then Rick had to put an exclamation point on his career with that travesty of a finale.

At least I'm not the only one! RJDiogenes seemed to react as if I'd sprouted a second head or something....

Enterprise is my third favorite incarnation of Star Trek* and the most TOS like.

So

Enterprise

Enterprise

Enterprise

Enterprise

:D

* TOS DS9 ENT TNG VOY

I couldn't survive in these parts if I didn't go in with the understanding that there's no accounting for taste.... :p

I think Agent Carter is more consistent, but it's also got an extremely small sample size. If you compare the best three Agents of SHIELD episodes to the only three Agent Carter episodes, I suspect they'll be relatively similar if not in favor of AoS.

I have no real preference between Agent Carter and SHIELD, except for my love of all things retro.

More like you lost your first one. :D Hey, I liked Enterprise. :rommie:

Hey, I'm for anything that keeps the this thread on page one when there are no new episodes! ;)

So how's the weather?

More interesting than anything to do with Enterprise.

And now,...

Going back to TWS, the scene with Peggy in it was very good, it really struck me as very well acted by Chris Evans. When Peggy coughs and forgets what they were just talking about, he looks like he wants to cry and is trying to hide it. Excellent performance.
Also, the fact Peggy is still alive opens a lot of possiblities about experimentally getting her back to fighting condition again. I'm looking forward to seeing her in more, and I love this show.

Unless something horrendous happens, I'll definately be buying this on dvd. It seems like it would be good to watch as a 6 1/2 hour movie over a weekend. I hope they do different time periods in future seasons. Plus this also maybe be laying more background for the AntMan feature. I am really enjoying the MCU. I was thinking about the first Iron Man and how no one ever made a shared universe before and they wouldn't be able to. I think they succeded.
