Adam's guitar

I'm looking for information about the prop used for "Adam's guitar" in "The Way to Edan." Does anyone know what happened to it? Does anyone make a replica of it?

Thanks,

John

Sorry to say I don't know.

But this reminds me that very cool part at the end of the episode where Spock says-over his 'dead' body- "His name was Adam." and the soundtrack has a guitar strum and his finger moves as if strumming the guitar.

Did they think of that in editing when they noticed his finger move or did they plan for his hand to move (unlikely) or did they not even notice his hand move when they were editing the episode?

I never noticed that before, thanks for mentioning it.

I don't know very much about the various online trek communities. Does anyone knows of other places where I should look or info on Adams guitar or post a question?

I think it can be easily salvaged. Yeah, the cheesy 60s tunes and lingo is too much, but the message behind it is a sound one.

"Oh, Herbert!" How can anyone not enjoy this episode? "Stiff man puttin' my mind in jail. And the judge bang the gavel and said, No bail! Gonna lick his hand, and w-a-a-a-g my tail!"

I can imagine Mr. Solow not liking this episode too much.

You mean Herbert F. Solow, the executive in charge of production of "Star Trek", yeah, maybe. According to IMDB it looks like he left after the second season, episode "Bread and Circuses", March 15, 1968 and "The Way to Eden" was a third season episode.

By the way, I saw the actor James Doohan (Mr. Scott) at Trek Convention in the mid 1980s in Baltimore and someone asked him what was his favorite episode and worst episode of "Star Trek". He said his favorite was "The Doomsday Machine" because it was couched in so much technology (or science). He said his worst was "The Way to Eden".

Yep, that's "HERBERT".

Shatner gave some examples of HERBERT behavior in one of his books. One story is about the time Nimoy was trying to get a phone installed in his dressing room. There was only one phone on set and everybody was expected to use it.

After weeks of getting nowhere with the phone Nimoy was getting really angry.
"Where the hell is the telephone?!" I yelled.

"Uh ... well ... uh, Mr. Solow wants to talk to you about that."

So now Herb Solow, Desilu's "executive in charge of production," comes down to the stage, and we sat in my dressing room having this ridiculous conversation in which I said, "I need a phone, I can't handle my business on that stage phone."

"You can't have it, it's not in your contract."

"I know that, I'm not asking you to give it to me, I'll pay for it myself. I'll pay for the installation and the bill."

"Nope, can't do it."

"Why?"

"Because then all the other actors will want one."

"And ...?"

"And they'll think I'm paying for yours."

"I'll tell them I'm paying for it myself."

"They won't believe you. The answer is still no."

Never heard the Solow story before and now that sheds a whole new (and more hilarious) light on that episode!

I think the problem with Eden is it is way outdated. Had we been watching it when the Hippie Movement was going on we may have thought differently.

Well I watched it in 1971, when there were still plenty of hippies around and it was cheesy and outdated even then. I remember wincing at it.
