Actors who would have made great Starfleet Captains

I've mentioned her before on another thread, but I think Dina Meyer would be a great Captain. I don't know why, but I always envision her with Trill spots.

I'd also love to see Alex Kingston in the centre seat. I think she would play a very interesting Andorian.

Thinking about it, Neil Patrick Harris would be interesting as well. His Barney Stinson has so many moments where he has that commanding, inspirational presence. Eventually, that is always turned upside down for a joke, but it shows that NPH delivers that extremely well.

Melakon: I thought of Dennis Hopper, and that's exactly how I'd picture him. Not a "great" Starfleet Captain per se, but the guy's whose gone past the edge, seen too much and said "f*** it." (Crispin Glover perhaps as a junior officer who gets possessed by the soul of an ancient criminal.)

TheGoodStuff: I've always thought Jack Nicholson and/or Gene Hackman would be awesome Admirals.

One example I've missed egregiously is Jon[sp?] Hamm. Capt. Don Draper, so to speak, would be the perfect stand-in for Chuck Connors as an emblematic WASP Captain of the (twenty-two-)Sixties.

Yeah, he was good as Frank Pembleton in that Homicide series. I think he would make a good Captain in Starfleet. I can imagine him grousing about the stupid Admiralty above him...
