Trek sequel should be Intergalactic War

I gotta tell you, all this talk about bringing in Khan or retreading another classic story for the sequel has got me worried.

Let's see something we've never seen before in a Trek movie. Let's see the Federation and the Alpha Quadrant on the brink of a full scale Intergalactic War. Tell me you wouldn't like to see a young Kirk and Spock dealing with the tensions of being on the front lines of a potential Federation War.

The destruction of Vulcan could be a catalyst for other powers agressions because they feel like the Federation has weakened. Maybe have it center around tensions between the UFP and the Klingon Empire. Throw in some other Alpha and Beta Quadrant powers like the Romulans and Cardassians.

I guess you can argue they touched on something like this in ST:VI, but I'm talking BIG scale, BIG budget space armada type stuff like they can do now. That would really be something to see.

Re: Trek sequel should be Intergalactic War

no. no DS9-ish wargames, please.

hey, I just posted over in the Trekmovie news thread (the one with Orci and Kurtzman talking about the sequel) about Prime Kirk being the arch-villain. think about it. it'll kill two birds with one swift stone.

the Shatman wouldn't turn this one down, trust me. it won't be a cameo, and written well, they can even write Prime Spock in (we already know Nimoy is not averse to coming back). it'll piss the Old Timers off BIG TIME but again, written well, it has all the earmarks of being a HUGE story and a draw over the entire fandom. the old timers may hate the thought of it but trust me, they'll come watch. over and over again.

mission accomplished. ;)

Re: Trek sequel should be Intergalactic War

I loved DS9 and its war, as well. but I don't want it in the new movie.

for one, I love what they have done here: they've given us back the idea of Trek as the promise of a bright and shiny future. I want that to continue, please. I want Trek to be the beacon of hope in the midst of the T2/TDK deluge of darkness and mayhem.

Big splosions and massive starships colliding with each other? Im down with that 8)

Re: Trek sequel should be Intergalactic War

I just want to see the Cardassians in action on the big screen...

Re: Trek sequel should be Intergalactic War

Mirror-Universe Kirk?

no, he was too pat, too blunt a character. too black and white. we need Prime Universe Kirk. but something needs to have happened to him that'd enable this.

besides, we need Prime Kirk to have that bond with Prime Spock (if we're to have Nimoy). Mirror Kirk didn't have that with Mirror Spock.

I agree, it's one of the things I love about Trek as well. Although I want to see how that promise of a shiny future deals with the threat of full scale war.

Re: Trek sequel should be Intergalactic War

I'll be honest and say I hope they don't clutter up the screen with old Kirk and Spock again; this crew has earned the right to stand on its own.

hmm... I'd take the Cardassians yes.

too bad Marc Alaimo is not acting any more. I'd take an ancestor of Dukat over another Romulan any day.

in that, I agree with you. but if they had to have another villain, I salivate over the thought of Prime Kirk as it.

okay, but in that case, it'd still be apocalyptic, won't it? it'd be a war movie.

Re: Trek sequel should be Intergalactic War

Didn't work too well with T4, did it? Would have to more resemble Tr2; more cartoony rather than "realistic".

Or at least Casey Briggs as Damar's ancestor. They did it for Worf after all.

If somehow the Cardassians do appear in the sequel I wonder if they will go beyond the Evil space Nazi stereotype that the Cardies were lumbered with? It would be interesting to find out...

True, but I'd still love to see it in a Trek film.

Re: Trek sequel should be Intergalactic War

they should... that got boring fast.

I like the idea of the Cardassians as culturally rich with a smidgen of vicious one-upmanship that explodes into what we saw in the backstory of DS9/Terok Nor. it makes them more believable and palatable than just the bare-bones naziness. I liked and was fascinated by the Cardies, despite myself. that's the ticket for most good Trek villains.
