Finally got around to watching the home release and I love this film even more the third time around! It just keeps getting better and better, especially as I pick up more of the nuances that are hard to pick up the first time around when there is so damn much going on (not a bad thing!). Some of them are Easter eggs, while others are neat thematic touches and foreshadowing.

In Into, during Miles' training montage, he falls from a building, trailed by downward comic book script of him screaming. Then during his triumphant hero montage, we see him slinging upwards followed by the same screaming script. And then in this film, while he's slinging with Gwen during the "thread the needle" moment, he screams sideways! It's a small thing, but I love that subtle continuation of his growth as Spider-Man.

When Miles is in the wrong universe, there are a lot of visual clues that he's in the wrong place. The main thing I noticed the first time right away was how cluttered his room was, but in a different way, particularly the plastic crates. However, this time I noticed that the clothing he quickly puts on (which aren't actually his) includes a purple hoodie!

When Jeff and Rio are arguing at the end but before Gwen interrupts them, Rio talks about how she doesn't know what Miles is doing and Jeff suggests "maybe he's trying to spread his wings"...which is precisely what Miles tried to tell his dad as Spider-Man but Jeff dismissed at the time.

Lastly, May-Day's pajamas at the end are covered with Spider-Ham heads. :D

I know I keep bumping up this thread without much success of further discussion but, man, I really love this film.

If you look, his coat is also either green or black but reflecting green highlights. He's wearing full Prowler colors and just doesn't realize it.

.

More than that, he even does the same arms out gesture that Miles does when they are having that conversation earlier in the film.

Now this is fun (looking at you, Honest Trailers). Pokes fun at the (donut) holes in the plot while still clearly loving the overall film, characters, and experience.

Plus: The video reminded me that Miles still has his Chekov's Hammerspace Mallet. Hopefully it comes into play in Beyond.

In a recent lengthy interview with Collider, the three directors talked a lot about the production of the film.

Aside from certain tidbits like Donald Glover filming his cameo mere weeks before the film came out and how Miguel was deliberately designed as a thirst trap, the biggest thing that stood out to me was the revelation of how the ending was changed after test audiences. Earth-42 Miles wasn't originally going to be the Prowler, but more importantly, the ending didn't have a hopeful conclusion. They then decided to go with The Empire Strikes Back-style ending with Gwen gathering the old gang back together to show that help was on the way for Miles.

A short film which originally debuted during last year’s Annecy International Animation Film Festival, A Spider Within, has now been publicly released:

I love how this short tackles Miles' growing anxiety, both as a normal teenager and as a young superhero. While it's a shame there wasn't any room for something like this in either feature film, I'm glad this short exists to make room to explore such issues. Even though it doesn't have the opportunity to provide any real solutions, only a possible outlet for help, it's important to show stories such as this one.
