I have to say I'm surprised and disappointed by the lack of conversation about this film here. I get this film didn't appeal to certain people for understandable reasons but surely more people have seen it, right? I really loved the hell out of this film (I guess my two long posts about it gave me away) so I'm itching to talk more about it and dig deeper into it.
Damn, that was good! Gorgeous. Hobie is the Spidey of my punk rock teen years. I nearly screamed in the theater at the ending cliffhanger. How long until the 3rd one?
I haven't had the chance to read the whole article but it does sound pretty awful. Doesn't help that Vulture is helping them do damage control by trying to say it's perfectly normal for 100 animators to leave during the course of a long production.
I absolutely loved this. I’m a big Spider-Man fan but while I enjoyed Into…, I probably didn’t enjoy it as much as I liked most of the live action films. But this one totally grabbed me - it was just such a feast for the eyes, but also with plenty of humour, heroism and emotion. Just such an inventive, witty movie.
I’d remained unspoiled for most of the cameos and Easter eggs but I did know it was ending on a cliffhanger. It’s going to be a long wait for the next instalment.
I really enjoyed it; a more than worthy sequel to what was already a masterpiece, but I think I'm mostly waiting for it to come out on home video to really dig into it a little deeper. For now I'm satisfied with having seen it and am just letting it sit in my brain for a while.

I watched it the same day as the Flash and one just took the attention away from the other. Both movies were released on the same day here which seems like bad business for both in my opinion. I guess there is less to say about the film since everyone seems to love it and it has been so successful in a season where everything else is bombing. I liked the movie but I felt the ending was dragged out for 20 minutes too long, particularly because I knew it was part 1 and this was going nowhere except to set up a cliffhanger. Those who didn't know that this was a two parter movie enjoyed the film also but were annoyed that it ended on a cliffhanger. I'm starting to wonder if Hollywood should make it clear that films such as Fast X and this are two-three parter films so as not to annoy fans. Mission Impossible seems to know what it's doing in this regard.
I think Sony has an exclusive first streaming run deal with Netflix and then after that their Spider-Stuff is available for Disney+
It’ll probably be purchasable on the usual places
I watched this in two sittings and had forgotten that this was only part one and was quite disappointed to have it end just as it ramped up to the peak. Arrgh
The
Donald Glover
cameo was of course fun but I was actually more surprised to see
Mrs. Chen from the Venom movies
.
While I'm not sure this couldn't have been made into one killer feature it can't be said that they didn't throw everything they had at this one. I think the pretty and wow factor may have covered up some plot points that may not have had as much impact as they could have. I need to see it again to finalize thoughts on that but there is certainly a lot of dazzle to be seen.
I actually felt a bit sorry for The Spot which I'm not sure was the intention.

Yeah, I understand that frustration but I wasn't bothered by it since I knew well in advance that the film was going to end on a cliffhanger.
I'll admit that the fact the film was just the first of two films probably should've been made clearer in the advertising. I'm not a fan of "Part 1, Part 2" in titles so I was pretty happy to see Across and Beyond titled as such. But I also think back to how Fellowship of the Ring and Infinity War ended. Were people surprised? Some were but I think most people were fine with that shock once they knew a sequel was definitely coming the following year.
Granted, that's no longer a guarantee here, between the animation work environment issues and the subsequent writers' and actors' strikes, but that was the intention.
I'm actually glad I was spoiled ahead of time for the Venom cameo since I've pointedly avoided those films. Knowing it was coming helped me understand the context of that moment (although I probably would've guessed it.

I've seen some people suggest this before but after my second viewing (and I feel confident I'll continue to feel this way) that much of what happens in Across is pertinent to all of the character and story arcs throughout. Perhaps some trimming could've been done here and there, but not large swaths of the film like some people have suggested. There is a lot to unpack here. Not just for Miles and Gwen, inarguably the co-leads of the film, but also for Miguel, Peter, and Hobie (less so for Pavitr and Jess), along with the fate of the Spider-Verse itself.
Obviously I don't know what to expect in Beyond aside from what's set-up from the cliffhanger, but I trust the creatives know what they're doing in telling this story.
I think you were suppose to feel sympathetic for the position Spot was put in, just not in the way he reacted to it and handled the situation thereafter. Much like most tragic villains (which is a staple of Spider-Man lore!).
Were there people that were actually surprised with how The Fellowship of the Ring ended? I thought all of the marketing and trailers and everything made it pretty clear it was the beginning of a trilogy, so even people who knew nothing about the books would know going it was going to have an open ending.
