Academy Awards discussion thread

I don't even think the VFX for TCCoBB was that special, honestly. I'm sure it was hard work, but you watch CG long enough and your eye can pick out moments where it goes CG. Not always, but I did notice it in BB.

J.
Then how did you not notice it in Ironman. It was blatantly obvious.

Or did you?

Oh. Yeah. Because I was so sure there was a real Iron Man suit.
Imagine my surprise when I discovered it was all CG.

J.

Iron Man a is completely different style of VFX film than Button, which is why it's unfair to put them against eachother, when Button would always win. Iron Man succeeded in showing a man get into an Iron suit, and become a superhero. The flying scenes were all CG. Very realistic CG. Now you say, 'Oh I saw that coming a mile a way,' and I sday duh, it's a comic book movie. It's all fantasy. About the de-aging effects being special, why wasn't similar effects used in X-Men 3 honored as well? Because it was used in a comic book movie. Sorry for the rant! Back to the show.

I'm glad Jerry got off that terrible bloating that was I guess linked to some (prescription) drugs he was taking. I give him credit for not hiding during that period.

Wow, they're sort of compressing the awards. One presenter for four awards!
I really like this. It streamlines the show and helps it move along a bit more quickly.

I like it, too. But they're still going to go past midnight!

Man, Jerry Lewis doesn't look like he's doing too well. How old is he?

One Oscar prediction that didn't come to pass- Benjamin Button hasn't been shut out. It's won three awards so far. Looks like Frost/Nixon is going to be the one going home empty handed (unless Kate Winselt loses, and then The Reader will, too.).

And like I said, Brad Pitt looking like and 80 year old man you def know is fake.

Usually VFX winners are those who come up with new techniques or VERY difficult FX and pull it off.

The technology to do Button only truly became apparent recently. The first big test was the Redenbacher' popcorn commercial where they had the deceased creater of that popcorn in a commercial.

He still looks pretty rough around the edges...how old is he now?

82. Almost 83.

Music awards coming up- I think Slumdog is going to sweep this category, too.

I'd love to see Thomas Newman win for Wall*E, though. He should have won for American Beauty.

Slumdog wins original score. I'm sure it will win song, too.

WHAT?!

Once more, the brilliant Thomas Newman gets the shaft!

J.

Well, he still has a shot at original song. :p The Slumdog songs might cancel each other out. But I doubt it. Jai Ho was pretty damed good. I loved the music from Slumdog!
