Abrams, "Star Trek at the core was Kirk and Spock"

Returning back to the basics was a great idea, but only if executed properly. Thankfully, Abrams hit a home run!

He didn't even know there were ten movies.

Oh lord !!

Didn't he think of the children ???? Stone him!

And worst of all, he thought Geordi was an alien!

Seriously though, I think Abrams was essentially right. The TOS characters, especially Kirk & Spock's friendship, are the heart of it. That's why I started a long-buried thread stating that this film was a triumph for Roddenberry, who I consider to be as great, if not better, a character artist than Tolkien. These are his characters (originally), and they are what drives the film. Between TOS and TNG, I think the case is closed, Roddenberry was a genius at character creation.

But, Abrams observation also gives some perspective on the weak points of STXI: Nero, and dealing with the convoluted situations that are apt to come up in a time-dimension story like this.

Whoa, now. Let's not get crazy.
