Whoa, now. Let's not get crazy.Seriously though, I think Abrams was essentially right. The TOS characters, especially Kirk & Spock's friendship, are the heart of it. That's why I started a long-buried thread stating that this film was a triumph for Roddenberry, who I consider to be as great, if not better, a character artist than Tolkien. These are his characters (originally), and they are what drives the film. Between TOS and TNG, I think the case is closed, Roddenberry was a genius at character creation.
