A 'Sisko' series would be cool

Mr. Low Frequency

I'm not sure if this falls under Future of Trek, but since this is just a wish of mine and has to do mainly with DS9 I'll put it here... please move if necessary. Thanks!

With 'Picard' shaping up to be something special I was thinking a 'Sisko' series would be pretty cool to have as well ('Janeway' & 'Archer' too). Probably not going to happen but one never knows. I certainly never imagined the scale of what Trek seems to be gearing up to now would be going on.

I'm not even sure what the story I'd want to see would be about, but the idea of emotional, character driven science fiction in the best DS9 tradition, distilled into a 13 episode arch, would just blow my socks off. The way it ended makes me feel that there is more to tell. The Sisko isn't done yet and has his family to get back to at the very least. Since hes's the Emissary it could also conceivably take place any where/any time. Maybe even revisit the DS9 series and pull a Back to the Future 2.

KASIDY: When will you be back?
SISKO: It's hard to say. Maybe a year, maybe yesterday. But I will be back.

I've been liking what Jordan Peele has done with The Twilight Zone, so if he was involved that could make things interesting for me too. I definitely would want to see Ira Steven Behr involved somehow though. I really appreciate his commitment and passion for telling DS9 stories. I wonder if Avery Brooks would be into coming back?

What do you fine people think of the idea of The Sisko making a return? What stories do you feel are left unresolved? I think the Dominion are finished, but those Cardassians always seem to be up to something.

If there had to be a new DS9 show, I'd prefer it be something a bit more tangential.

A "Lives of Dax" anthology.
An animated Ferengi show.
A "Rebuilding Cardassia" mini-series.
Martok and Worf sitcom. ;)

Ug, not Archer. I suppose it'd be cool to have some TV movie that just wrapped up the Temporal Cold War and it could include Archer. But he's not a particularly interesting character, most generic of the Captains.

It'd be cool to see the future of Bajor and Cardassia touched on. Bajor is like "Huh, looks like we're the one with the more powerful military now. How did you treat us when the situation was reversed again?" And a fight ensues over Bajor's soul with those pushing for peace and those pushing for retribution. Kira would be on the 'Peace' side, also they'd be debating Federation membership, and both sides would be saying they represent what Sisko would have wanted.

Martok & Worf - A holo-production of the Odd Couple. haha

That's a really good idea about Bajor and Cardassia. A totally different kind of Trek show for sure. I used to find the political/religious Bajor stories the least interesting part of DS9 but as I've gotten older it's kind of flipped the other way.

I would be all over this if it also delved into Bajor and Cardassia's development post Dominion War. It's a shame Brooks has zero interest in going back to anything Star Trek, as it is also hard to imagine anyone else filling the role. However, with the wormhole aliens, he could just as easily come back looking younger, older, or whatever the casting dictated. I don't think it would be a disrespectful thing if it's the original actor saying, "No thanks," before there's ever an offer.

If Avery Brooks would not contribute to the WWLB documentary because he felt he had nothing new to say, what would change his mind about a new series that would add something more than being a floating ghost popping up every week? Are the Prophets the Q? Could Sisko now be a Q? How long could that premise last and what would they do to change the premise in x seasons down the road to keep it fresh and without violating the core premise?

That's a good point about recasting. Brooks might be persuaded to come back if they allowed more of his own personal views to shine through. Like with Patrick Stewart having more say in the writers room on 'Picard'. Or so I gather he does.
When I've read interviews with Brooks I always got the feeling that his major complaint with Star Trek was it focused on things in a way that didn't always fit with his own artistic sensibilities. He's pretty creative in his own right, with views he feels are important to express, so I can see where the friction would happen with a franchise like Star Trek. He's not the kind of actor whose a blank slate for the production, which is one of the reasons I really like him. He informed the character of Sisko in a lot of ways that went beyond just bringing great acting chops or technique.

Picard is a far, far more popular character than Sisko ever was. Don't expect that just because there's a Picard series that they're going to use that as some kind of springboard to give other characters their own series.

Personally, I wouldn't want it to last x number of seasons. Have a meaningful story, tell it effectively, then wrap it. There are plenty of other Star Trek stories to tell that there doesn't need to be filler injected into any one series to have the Universe continue. Keep it fresh.
Disappointing to hear he wasn't in the documentary though. I haven't seen it yet but I've been hoping it would be a definitive statement on DS9.

Oh, I understand that. But how popular was 'Discovery' before it aired? If we only do what's popular then Star Trek would never have become a thing in the first place.
I've learned along time ago to never expect anything when it comes to me fulfilling my wants of a tv show. That's why I find it fun to talk about. I'm not really invested that emotionally in these ideas to feel put out if something doesn't happen.

I don't get the sense anyone actually expects that. I think this is largely fun "what-if" speculation and saying Sisko is a character with plenty left to explore.

And don't get me wrong. I personally would love to see Star Trek: Sisko. I'm just saying that it's an unrealistic expectation. But yeah, I get the what-if scenario idea.

Interesting hypotheses! There is a lot they could do but the first step would be to convince him it's worth the time. And if enough in the audience could be intrigued, as DS9 and VOY didn't quite hit the zeitgeist TNG had (though DS9's ratings were largely respectable early on and still managed 7 years with passable ratings - and the other fact that it's rare for a niche genre, no matter how it's presented, to win over mass audiences... I'm impressed by how far various shows have...)

About WWLB, If nothing else, the clips of Avery used had his blessing. If his mindset hadn't changed since then then why repeat it, which would cost the production team even more money and that money likely went to film restoration instead (and even with all said and done they were unable to get 2 scenes they wanted to do done... I don't recall which scenes, I only recall reading there were a couple more they wanted but ran out of time on...)

Because in Brooks' mind, documentaries and conventions are different animals than stage and film work. Behr has said that seven years ago, Brooks inquired into reprising Sisko and filming more DS9. On stage with Shatner, Stewart, Mulgrew and Bakula, Brooks strongly implied that he would do more. What role he would play would be up for negotiation, no doubt, but Brooks hasn't put up any roadblocks.

That's good to hear they had his blessing and used relevant clips. I really wish I had made it to the screening when it was in town. Just ordered the special edition blu ray. A bit expensive, but you gotta support what you love. I've gotten more than my money's worth from the DS9 companion book.

Maybe a Sisko series post DS9 season 7, set somewhere deep in the Gamma quadrant.

The Dominion are gone, new powers are fighting for supremacy and the Sisko is needed to bring some order to the chaos. The wormhole is opened up temporally to allow starfleet to send a ship with some of it finest and a maybe a couple of old friends come along for the ride.

Maybe not the strongest premise, but it pretty much gives the writers a blank slate.
