A Night to Remember

When this movie comes out, are any of you going to be the ones we see lined up the night before, braving the elements, so as to be in that first showing?

I hope no one does this. The media will just do "let's-point-and-laugh-at-the-nerds" stories about it, and this will keep the film from seeming mainstream in the slightest.

Um... ok they do the same thing at the Star Wars geeks.

"Um" yes they do, and I get douche chills from those spazzes also.

It's highly unlikely this movie will be such an enormous hit that people will have any trouble getting tickets in a more conventional fashion.

I won't be going to the midnight showing simply because I'm getting too old to do that and then go to work a few hours later. So I'll be seeing it after work with my Trekkie geek friends.

Whether the film floats or sinks it's going to be a night to remember. It's a Star Trek premier and is bound to, come what may, be a blast.

Everyone there is going to be there because they want to be there and, Insult Dog be dammed, we're going to have a good time! If you're embarrassed by Trekkies devoted to showing their appreciation for their favorite franchise then don't show up to the same theater as us.

Never a doubt in my mind that I'd be hitting the midnight showing.

Man... it's going to be awesome. All this waiting... and for the moment to finally arrive... Wow.

And it'll be 10 times better if we can all look back on it and remember it as the night that Star Trek rose from the ashes. *Fingers-crossed* :techman:

I'll just say it: Never been so excited for any movie in my life.

Okay, steveman, you are in the point position. When you see this movie, I want you to post your review, honestly and all, before I see it later in the day. I am going to look for review since I have never 'posted' to you before, at least as I can remember. This way I wont have any idea how or what you like....so...do me proud. I would be out there in the cold with you, over night in fact, but man, I just can't bare the cold anymore. I am now on the second string, as I said earlier. So.....good luck...and take a phaser with you incase some of those crazy Klingon fans show up with their batleths (Seth Green too)

Well I'm sorry, that's your problem.
Some people like to have fun and be excited about it.
A no show at the midnights would not look good to
the media in anyway. And like I said it's not about
getting the tickets.

I goto every midnight opening during the summer...

Exactly.

My intention is to buy tickets online the day before it opens, and about an hour before show time walk the two blocks to my favorite theater to see the midnight show.

... and at every one there is people lined up for sometimes hours to see it.

It's not about the tickets. It's to be in line for getting a decent seat.

I never have that experience. Of course, the Majestic is one of those new "arena-seating" multiplexes with twenty good-sized theaters in it - and they book any "big" movie onto three or four of their screens for the first couple of weeks.

Same here, it's a 21 screen cineplex and they usually book big releases to
3 or 4 screen plus our IMAX. And sometimes on opening night they've even
had 3am showings(They did this for Pirates: At Worlds End and The Dark Knight)
because the midnights sell out and people are still there waiting.

Guess movies are just big here.

The media are likely only going to report on anything if there are lines at midnight showings. If there aren't, they just won't bother with it and no one will know any difference.

Haha... I'll see what I can do. As there don't seem to be as many people going to the midnight showing as I would've thought, I could definitely make the effort to get a review posted... something for the non-midnight crowd to take a look at before they go. Checking out reviews on Rotten Tomatoes is one thing, but getting the scoop from a fellow fan is certainly something different.

But, yeah, there's was never a doubt that I'd be hitting the midnight showing. I'm in my early-twenties, so I'm definitely game for this stuff. :techman:

Well considering everyother movie of it's kind will have midnight lines this
summer, it would definitely be seen as kind of odd.

But with the fact it is slated to be a big summer movie and has considerable
hype, it's pretty much gauranteed.

Opening day certainly, hopefully the day before if there is preview (there was for Dark Knight). Will go with my girlfriend, but will probably go on my own the first showing as I really do like to sit in silence in the cinema, something she is not particulary fond of. :D

There is simply no need to queue up in a long line anymore - the invention of the multiplex saw to the that. All the big movies are on every hour - on the hour. Depends on the number of screens (there are a few 12+ Cinemas in and around Manchester). Its not like the old days when movies were only on three or four times a day.

Last movie I really queued for was Ghosbusters II. Waited in line for hours. Somebody let off a "stink bomb" in the queue . Its weird - 20 years later and I can still almost taste that smell. Its odd how stuff like that stays with you.

:D

Wow, I'm begining to think people really don't goto movies where some of
you are, even with 3-4 screens showing the same movie on opening weekend
with around a dozen showings a day, sometimes more, there is almost always
lines for each showing if for the simple fact people want to get good seats.

One of the advantages of being in a Star Trek club is you can plan a cool event. I plan to show up in the Zhang Heng with a car load of folks in uniform. We will make arrangements with the theater to make a splash.

Anybody in the area that isn't completely turned off by the sight of Trekkies in uniforms is a target for recruitment.

I'll go the opening day/night if two of my closest friends make the trip up from Clearwater, Florida to hang out and spend time with me. If not, I'll wait a few days until the opening crowds thin out somewhat. I didn't go to see most TREK films over the years on their opening weekends. GENERATIONS I saw four times in the theater in the Holiday season of late '94 but I didn't go the day it opened. I waited a few days for my first screening, in part because of my schedule.
