Wow......Just wow.
First like someone said the original sold for around a quarter mil and I'm willing to bet from a purely material standpoint it isn't even worth that much they probably got 50,000-75,000 extra just by it being the model that was used in the films. In fact I'm betting if you went to ILM today and said build me a model like TMP, with all the advances in design, manufacturing, lighting, electronics since 1979 it wouldn't even cost $250,000 for a brand spanking new one, let alone 3 mil.
Second, like someone also pointed out, QMX is offering a three foot replica that, from what I've seen, looks like with a few alterations, if it was filmed by a good sfx crew who knew how to light and film a model correctly could pass for a ship that would look as good on TV as the Enterprise-D did on TNG, and they're selling it for only 6 grand.
Third you do realize that high end sports cars that actually have engines, brakes, transmissions, all the latest electronic features and can do almost 200 mph cost way less than 3 milion to build
Well I'll tell you guys what. Send me 3 million, I'll find the guy who owns the original offer him up to 1.5 million and then we'll go to vegas and spend the remaining money on gambling and strippers.
3 million..........

Good Lord
