A name for the Doctor.

Maybe he should be named after a disease(s).

Phage Zimmerman. Sounds kind of zippy.

Back in the AQ, "Phage, where's that from, is it a nick name?"

The Doctor chuckles softly (not that Chuckles, OH AN IMAGE APPEARED IN MY MIND..)

^^
I get the impression that you're not a fan of the old Doc?

Quite the contrary. But I´m not a fan of his indecision regarding a name. Maybe he should stay "the Doctor". After all these years a name would be odd. On the other hand, mabe he finds a wife and picks finally a name. It´s just a kind of "fun" to find the most stupid (Paris), illogical (Tuvok) and outrageous (Neelix) names. Most of them are really out of the question.

While reading Kirsten Beyer´s novels, the Doctor grew dear to my heart. If I had ever problems with him it was in the first seasons. But Kes had a great influence on him.

This discussion had indeed turned into something ridiculous. But some serious suggestions are still welcome.

Considering that a disease was named after Barclay (Genesis), everything is possible.

The Very Left Doctor E. Phase "Analgesic Crème" Amplitude-Modulation,
Sultan of Sick Bay, Refractor of Light, Keeper of the Fidelity of the Reconstructed Beam

Wow.

Famous Quote: "I have but one photon to give to my Starship"...wait, sorry, no...

...ah, here it is

"In the beginning, there is darkness – the emptiness of a matrix waiting for the light. Then a single photon flares into existence. Then another. Soon, thousands more. Optronic pathways connect, subroutines emerge from the chaos and a holographic
consciousness is born."
– The Doctor, 2378

There was a time I thought the last season would be a year or more later than the beginning of the series, where the Doctor would have a name, Tom and B'elanna had a kid, and/or Neelix lost a leg or something.

Kenneth was fine, but the Doctor used it only with his holographic family and didn´t really identify himself with that name.

How bout Larry or Moe or Curley Joe instead of just Joe
How bout Bud from Bud Abbot
or Lou from Lou Costello
They are all appropiate.

So naming can be REALLY hard actually.

I adopted a sweet older kitty a few months ago and she came with the name Josie so I decided to keep it. But then my boyfriend whose name is Joe said that he thought I inadvertently named the cat after HIM and I was like NO. And then everyone made fun of me because of "Josie and the Pussycats" so the name Josie was tainted. Tainted! But I spent so much time calling her Josie so now any other name seems false but I also stopped calling her Josie.

So now she is just Kitty. Sweet lovable kitty! So I understand why after 6-7 years of calling him Doc....any other name seems weird. He shall always be the Doctor! :)

^ "I have a three-year-old dog. I named him Stay." - Steven Wright :D

As for the Doctor: You could call him John Jacob Jingleheimer Schmidt, but he'd get tired of people walking into Sickbay and going "Hey, that's my name too!"

Ooops...sorry. My comment was to Orphalesion, not to you. Stupid me, I should have used the "quote" option.

As for The Doctor's name, I have never understood why they didn't use the "Dr. Zimmerman" option, like they did in some of the books.

Which is a reason why I like "Lewis Shmullus Zimmerman" as a suggestion.

There is also a scene in the excellent book "The Black Shore" where two of the alien villains enters sickbay and confronts The Doctor. They call him "neffaler" which was a way of cursing their opponents. The Doctor replies "That's Doctor Neffaler to you and I can't say that I care too much for that as a name". The way The Doctor finally handles those dangerous aliens is one of the best chapters in the book. :techman:

However, the name "Doctor Neffaler" struck for me and I actually used it as a nickname for me on a non Star Trek forum for a while. Not that I would actually suggest that for the good, old Doc. It just sounded funny.

As for nicknames, a relative of mine has a wife who constantly watches "The Bold And The Beautiful". My relative hates the series and is constantly coming up with nicknames for all the main characters. I don't watch it myself but when I happen to zap ove it, I always remember the names and starts laughing

I can agree that the discussion about his name has become a bit ridiculous. But maybe we could consider Doctor Eemage as a new suggestion?

Khan, Shinzon and James T. Kirk II are also out of the question.

Prince William and Kate Middleton named her daughter Charlotte Elizabeth Diana. This name includes Prince Charles, Queen Elizabeth and Lady Diana.

As for the Doctor, his name must be Tom Harry Janeway. Or Joe Tuvok Paris. Or Vorik Seven Kim.

Was it a Greg Cox novel? I hardly remember the story, but his novels are all at least good, if not excellent.

As to the cursing: Hadschi is a bad idea. Everyone would say "God bless you" to him.

He might need a blessing, considering all the crazy names we all have come up with.

As for "The Black Shore", it's a Greg Cox book and my favorite novel among the Voyager books.

He is more on the TOS track right now. But the Voyager relaunch is in good hands, which is thanks to Kirsten Beyer. :)

Ah so you did mean me. The two arrows confused me bcause I thought it refered to the post above mine.

Yeah don't like that egotistical git one bit....

And see it from this side: The Doctor gets deleted, Kes has sickbbay and they can't write her off anymore. Win-win scenario!

DOC. Dick On Command . I know he's one all the time, but meh, funny when I think of Paris calling him Doc.
