A name for the Doctor.

Maybe he should be named after a disease(s).
Phage Zimmerman. Sounds kind of zippy.

Quite the contrary. But I´m not a fan of his indecision regarding a name. Maybe he should stay "the Doctor". After all these years a name would be odd. On the other hand, mabe he finds a wife and picks finally a name. It´s just a kind of "fun" to find the most stupid (Paris), illogical (Tuvok) and outrageous (Neelix) names. Most of them are really out of the question.
While reading Kirsten Beyer´s novels, the Doctor grew dear to my heart. If I had ever problems with him it was in the first seasons. But Kes had a great influence on him.
This discussion had indeed turned into something ridiculous. But some serious suggestions are still welcome.
Considering that a disease was named after Barclay (Genesis), everything is possible.

There was a time I thought the last season would be a year or more later than the beginning of the series, where the Doctor would have a name, Tom and B'elanna had a kid, and/or Neelix lost a leg or something.
How bout Larry or Moe or Curley Joe instead of just Joe

So naming can be REALLY hard actually.
I adopted a sweet older kitty a few months ago and she came with the name Josie so I decided to keep it. But then my boyfriend whose name is Joe said that he thought I inadvertently named the cat after HIM and I was like NO. And then everyone made fun of me because of "Josie and the Pussycats" so the name Josie was tainted. Tainted! But I spent so much time calling her Josie so now any other name seems false but I also stopped calling her Josie.
So now she is just Kitty. Sweet lovable kitty! So I understand why after 6-7 years of calling him Doc....any other name seems weird. He shall always be the Doctor!

As for the Doctor: You could call him John Jacob Jingleheimer Schmidt, but he'd get tired of people walking into Sickbay and going "Hey, that's my name too!"

As for The Doctor's name, I have never understood why they didn't use the "Dr. Zimmerman" option, like they did in some of the books.
Which is a reason why I like "Lewis Shmullus Zimmerman" as a suggestion.
There is also a scene in the excellent book "The Black Shore" where two of the alien villains enters sickbay and confronts The Doctor. They call him "neffaler" which was a way of cursing their opponents. The Doctor replies "That's Doctor Neffaler to you and I can't say that I care too much for that as a name". The way The Doctor finally handles those dangerous aliens is one of the best chapters in the book.
However, the name "Doctor Neffaler" struck for me and I actually used it as a nickname for me on a non Star Trek forum for a while. Not that I would actually suggest that for the good, old Doc. It just sounded funny.
As for nicknames, a relative of mine has a wife who constantly watches "The Bold And The Beautiful". My relative hates the series and is constantly coming up with nicknames for all the main characters. I don't watch it myself but when I happen to zap ove it, I always remember the names and starts laughing

Was it a Greg Cox novel? I hardly remember the story, but his novels are all at least good, if not excellent.
As to the cursing: Hadschi is a bad idea. Everyone would say "God bless you" to him.
He might need a blessing, considering all the crazy names we all have come up with.
As for "The Black Shore", it's a Greg Cox book and my favorite novel among the Voyager books.
He is more on the TOS track right now. But the Voyager relaunch is in good hands, which is thanks to Kirsten Beyer.
