A Klingon by any other name...

Made sense from a story standpoint since you could tell who was a Vulcan or Klingon by their names. From a more realistic perpective not so much.

Didn't the novelization of TUC come up with Valeris having a Klingon name for some reason, because it didn't follow the Vulcan naming pattern?

Valeris was an honored female hero of the Klingon race, a warrior. Valeris born on Zorakis, a planet in Boswellia sector, bordering Klingon space. Valeris' parents T'Paal and Sessl, volunteered to try to establish negotiations with the Klingons months before Organian intervention, when war seemed imminent. Sessl attempted to establish a dialogue with the Klingons. T'Paal was killed.

Why would any names have patterns? That would be like all male names in english would have to start with a J and female names start with a V or something. Doesn't make sense. So i say to stop over-analyzing things.

Happens all the time. For example, with languages that have grammatical gender, it's easy to see sound patterns -- most female names ending in "-a" and most male names ending in "-o", for example. So the Vulcan "S-" vs "T'-" pattern is already well within the range of current norms for several human languages.

Exactly.

Which of these is a typical human name?

John Smith
Sen-Wu Chiang
Tukufu Mbandwe
Cher
Millard Fillmore

There are bound to be variations in other cultures as well. It's bad enough that all vulcans have the same damned haircut, why do their names all have to start with "s" or "t'" also?

Please, don't get me started on the Vulcan/Romulan Moe Howard 'do.
