A&E Taking Heat For Suspending 'Duck Dynasty's' Phil Robertson

They're even selling crappy Duck Dynasty toys in major retail chains, and from what I've read they've been selling like hotcakes since this story first hit the headlines.

It's all over the place.
i haven't seen any toys...but i did notice some Duck Dynasty fake beards in the toy aisle. kids seem to like em too, which i find weird. if i were a kid i'd rather have a Transformer or Lightsaber.

I'm really waiting for Pope Francis to come out and admonish everyone, saying something along the lines of, "this is what I've been talking about. You're so worked up about a guy in camo and something he said in a magazine, while the poor are starving. The people of Christ have their focus in the wrong place."

that's okay.

appearently Limbaugh has deemed pope Francis a marxist so he can be ignored (though it does ignore his actions in the past but such ignorance is typical of limbaugh).

Right-wing, bombthrowing former oxycontin addicts tend to find men like Pope Francis dirty, untrustworthy radicals. There's no surprise when the conservatives who claim to be so Christian and religious are the first to turn against the poor and their champions.

When you cut Food Stamps and school lunch programs to give rich businessmen bigger tax cuts you're not exactly Albert Schweitzer.

It was in GQ magazine. Does anyone actually read it?

Funny you should ask that, considering a thread... elsewhere on the board... about GQ and the consensus seems to be that it's still pretty significant.

To be fair, I'm pretty sure they've been selling like hotcakes since well before this whole brouhaha started. I've been hearing people rave about it since last Christmas.

Check 'em out.

"Phil really despises the beaver."

Wow. Really? That's not what he said in GQ Magazine. :vulcan:

It's heartening to see everyone in this thread (minus the OP) has come out in support of A&E and against Robertson's remarks.

The "black people were better off under Jim Crow" meme is a bizarrely common one in the South, it seems. Robertson also shows every indication of being fully absorbed in his privilege. "I didn't witness this, this didn't happen to me, so it must not have happened. And I don't get guys wanting to have sex with each other, so there must be something wrong with them."

If the show gets canceled as a result of all this, I won't shed any tears. I've seen a few episodes. It's fun, as semi-scripted reality shows go. The hook seems to be that these guys are smarter than they look. If so, it's apparently not by much.

There is nothing wrong what he said. Possessing and voicing traditional family values, much which are based in religion is considered unacceptable today. But advocating for the despicable act of two men engaging in the vile act of anal sex is not. Welcome to Obama's America. “Political correctness” is the first tool of all totalitarian societies and we are witnessing it first hand. Living Christian faith out loud makes Hollywood and the DC/NY pundits uncomfortable. Having anti-Christians with pro-homosexual proclivities in the current WhiteHouse and Congress was bound to hit head-on with the majority of Americans sometime. Might as well be now. The Robertson's will come out winners in this situation.

Its 2013, get on the bandwagon the new Pope is driving.

You need to stop hating on gays and start hating on capitalism and the rich people who don't pay taxes while half the world starves.

Of course people are pissed off. Who do you think watches that trash? Close minded hypocritical hicks.

It's probably the same people who claim to follow Jesus and never do...

"I'm against taxing the rich to save the poor!"

Really because Jesus wasn't.

"God put the different races on different continents to separate them."

Jesus was black you dumb fucks.

Honest when is Jesus supposed to return and take the believers to heaven? They are in the way and I'd like he planet to my fucking gay self.

I'm actually disappointed in A&E. They continue to run the repeats of the show (had a marathon last night) and it seems like they are attempting to cash in on the notoriety that this incident has created.

I still want to know why no one was up in a rage about some people requesting sponsors back out of the show "All American Muslim" because it: "Showed Muslim's in a positive light."

Granted the show got cancelled due to low ratings, but still, where is the outcry for "freedom of religion" in that situation?

This is America and they were brown. So there is no outcry.

Plenty of people were upset (I sure wasn't happy about it), but bigots always seem to be more vocal and numerous.

The people who claim "We have a Constitutional right to our religious bigotry!" seem to not understand that people also have the constitutional right to have freedom FROM religion.

Also it's America, you have the right to be a NAZI. However if you are on TV and say "God will figure out what to do with the blacks and the gays" than you will get fired and that's the employer's right.

You really doesn't seem to understand how the government and business work.

Private businesses can fire people for expressing their religious beliefs when not at work? When did they pass that law?
