The little girl, well the ending, has Moffatt made it his goal to destory Galifery Base, and Who fandom generally? that is amazing, suggests the girl is the product of Amy & the Doctor.
I'm going product of Amy and the TARDIS.

I'm thinking it'll be something else - like she somehow stole the aborted regeneration from when she shot the Doctor. Seeing as she says exactly the same line that he said to her last week. (and, yes, I know that was in 2011, not 1969, but how did she get to NYC on her on anyway? I think we're going to see her again and she'll get some time travelling)

Oh, and as for the Doctor's invitation - you'd think he'd recognise his own bloody handwriting!

The method of dealing with the Silents doesn't work. How utterly stupid to think that every human being has seen the Moon landing. There are millions, if not billions who still live without electricity, let alone any way of viewing footage like that. All the Silents have to do is switch their operations to Africa, China or chunks of eastern Europe and it's business as usual. And that's not counting all the people who've seen the footage but don't happen to keep a suitable weapon handy at all times. Presumably those places don't matter to the Doctor (or the viewer). For that matter, if part of the plan was to influence space exploration, it didn't stop after 1969, did it. Feels very sloppy writing. And that's the story they claim they 'did' resolve.

To be honest, if you want to influence and steer the fate of the Human race, a hut in Africa is not the go to place. Anybody who is or will be a somebody will see at one point or another the moon landing tape.

A bigger plot hole is that the Doctor couldn't have known he'll have a captive Silent to record when he planted the transmitter on Apollo 11.

Marvellous episode - just the sort of TV that makes paying the licence fee seem worthwhile, unlike the atrocious Don't Scare the Hare, which makes most ITV offerings seem highbrow.

The eye-patch woman in the door is Lady Kovarian played by Frances Barber. She reappears in episodes 6x07 and 6x08. The latter episode also features Richard Dillane as Adolf Hitler! :cardie: Kovarian seems like a Rani-ish like character. The name sounds Armenian, but I have no idea what it means - "covariance" seems unlikely. A character called Jenny is also listed for 6x07, but not played by Georgia Moffett. Source is IMDB, so your BS filters may need to be applied.

"covariance" could refer to the relationship between two timelines...

or it just be a reference to Ovarian, what with all the pregnancy bits.

Just watched the episode again and loved it. I think Lonemagpie is on to something regarding the little girl's regeneration. I think it's connected to the Doctor's shooting in the first episode. I believe this is going to be a season long...or even half season long arc and we could get looped back to the start. Murray's music is bang on again.

Interesting but weird Amy/Doctor/Rory stuff going on in that episode too. It's like Moffat is purposely trying to mislead us still lol. Can't wait for next week.

Well the overnight ratings plunged from last week, with the episode now languishing in 35th place, a far cry from the days when it was never out of the Top 10.

And I'm sure all the usual excuses will get trotted out (the weather, the timeslot, the time of year) despite the fact that it used to do so much better in exactly the same circumstances but I'm more convinced now then ever that Moffat's direction for the show is turning off the the very people that made it a massive success for the first five years of its revival.

Still second most watched programme of the day - same as last week.

I'm sure the same old Levine types will be getting their hammers ready for their tellies.

Oh, and as for the Doctor's invitation - you'd think he'd recognise his own bloody handwriting!

The invites were typed, not handwritten, precisely because the Doctor knows he'd recognize his own handwriting (as he did in "The Big Bang").

It's easy to be second place when no one is watching TV that day.
So, basically, it's not that more people are specifically not watching Doctor Who, it's that fewer people are watching anything live, deciding instead to DVR it (or whatever they call that in the UK) or watch it online later. Sounds about right in this day and age.

Indeed. That's the point - fewer people were watching TV at all, not just fewer watching DW specifically

The series used to be in the Top 10 (or even 5) for the week, every week.

Still would be, if you don't count every episode of the various multi-screening soaps etc as a separate show, and if the wedding coverage wasn't skewing everything this week.

Yes because of the weather.

For example, Impossible Astronaut had a overnight of 6.5m. The timeshift however was amazing, putting it's final ratings at 8.86m.

Basically people enjoyed the sun and watch it later. Which given how rare it is to have such nice weather in april, it's understandable.

Well I had to watch it on iplayer a little while after it was shown on BBC as I had some issues with my insulin and needed to sort it out yesterday afternoon and didn't get home till gone seven.

That is an interesting point. Many folks record new episodes of a show then actually watch them at a later time. How do ratings services account for such techniques when calculating their numbers?

On a side note - glad you got your insulin issues sorted, Dimesdan. I don't have to take it myself - yet -but a couple friends and family members have been there. Not fun

^ I watch live on iPlayer as I have no other way of getting live TV - not sure if it counts towards ratings, but with this show they don't matter so much. It's not about to get cancelled, after all. :D

As for this episode - I liked it. I don't mind the more serialized nature of the show this season, as long as the unresolved plot threads get sorted out eventually.

Well BBC would know directly how many people stream or download directly from iPlayer. Sky apparently have a viewers panel to collect info and I assume Virgin would have something similar, TiVo and Microsoft also collect data from viewing recordings on their devices which I assume they sell on and BARB and BBC have Live+7 ratings figures, so there's a lot of data to work with I would expect.

Ya see, that's generally my first instinct with serialised stuff. I like it and don't mind it being drawn out some if it gets resolved properly. But there just seems to be a little much going on here with very little explanation seeming forthcoming. I know we're only 2 episodes on but maybe the disappointment of Lost, BSG and various others has made me a little wary of thinking it will all work out.

That's understandable. I was none too impressed with the resolutions of LOST and BSG myself. I'm just giving The Moff the benefit of the doubt. :D

Leaving plot resolutions unresolved seems to be a US thing. I'm sure it'll be wrapped up nice in the series finale. Though I kinda hope the series is a mix of arc, and stand alone eps.

I'll be very interested in seeing the numbers for the second half of the series in the Fall, when weathers likely to be less of a distraction.
