50th Anniversary : What would you like to see?

Yes it's a little more than two years away but I'm bored I guess and wanted to talk about it - what would you like from the various media to celebrate?

We know there's a movie in development directed by Roberto Orci, but what of other stiff

* COMICS: Hopefully IDW will still have the licence, there have been a load of major Trek crossovers lately (The Q Gambit, Flesh and Stone) and there's a Planet of the Apes book to come, so if the trend continues there'll possibly be a mini-series involving all 5 crews. NuTrek will probably have stories relating to the new movie? Also hopefully more little series and maybe movie script adaptations?

* BOOKS: Similar theme but there'll probably be a Typhon Pact/The Fall-type mini series - I wonder if by then they will have caught up with the destruction of Romulus?

* TV: Highly unlikely but a new series would be nice.

* MERCHANDISE: Therre's been all sorts from doggie gifts to action figures to kitchen appliances! No doubt CBS want this to continue

* VIDEO GAMES - Online will do something; more guest voiceovers likely. Timelines will also be out.

* FAN FILMS - No, not official but I see this as a Star Trek media within itself. Axanar looks brilliant with superb cast members and the ongoing series Phase II, Continues, Intrepid and Farragut [about to go movie era too] are likely to do something for the big 5-0

What else do you want or expect from the anniversary?

Taking a cue from the recent 50th anniversary celebrations of Doctor Who, I think that a Docudrama dramatising the origins and early days of the original series would be most welcome (see An Adventure In Space And Time). In addition, a lengthy, all-encompassing documentary would be nice. Get as many cast members past and present as possible to be involved.

Ah yes I've thought about that before - Gene Roddenberry's story
from the creation and filming of the pilot 50 years ago to the first airing of the show? That's almost the same timescale of An Adventure in Space & Time!! (Which was practically Hartnell's 3 years on the show.)

I loved that docudrama about Doctor Who! If they did something similar with Star Trek, that would be great! But unlike Doctor Who, there have been five separate shows, each with a distinct personality. I'd like something that celebrates Star Trek as a whole, and not just the show that started it.

A multi-part comic series or novel series that ties each crew together would be the best way to go, I think.

I do love your "attack eyebrows" avatar btw :D

For the 50th anniversary, I would love a new Star Trek series.

I'd also love to see a round table discussion involving Shatner, Nimoy, Takei, Nichols and Koenig and anyone else still around from the old days.

Don't hold your breath. It seems a licensing issue is preventing the novels from incorporating anything substantial from the new movies. 2386 is gonna be a long year in the novelverse.:sigh: Click!

What it'll probably be is a documentary about Star Trek, about how it was made, why it became so popular, and interviews with cast members, guest stars, set crew, producers, and such. Maybe a hour/two hour round-table discussion about Trek with as many cast members from the series as they can haul in. I wouldn't mind a nice little compliation of the best moments of each Trek series/movies as well, set to some of the soundtracks (The Inner Light is required. :p)

As far as that, I don't really mind what they do, so long as it's something good, which I'm sure it will be.

With, or without boxing gloves, knives, sharp sticks, shivs, or guns?

I want a miniseries of awesome excellence.
There would be no better time or excuse to do it, as it's never been done before. CBS really doesn't have anything to lose with a mini-series and the ratings would be very strong for it. Whether this would continue to be the case if they kept punching them out, I wouldn't care to hazard a guess. But unless it's called: The Adventures of Captain Worf, I suspect it would do very well, indeed! What say you, CBS ... ?

Aside from Trek XIII, all I really desire is a special set of novels for each of the TV series, perhaps set in the TV series era as opposed to the current novel continuities to celebrate the anniversary. This isn't completely without precedent, for Voyager's tenth anniversary they had a trilogy of novels set during the TV run of the series. This would help bring in casual readers who are just being swept up into the anniversary buzz, and would help Pocket's novel continuity postpone arriving at the problematic year of 2387.

For IDW's comics, maybe a series that brings all Trek shows together, even including the Abramsverse. Something like their Doctor Who Prisoner of Time series they did for the anniversary, but hopefully better written.

I also like the suggestions someone made about a docudrama about TOS, that would be pretty cool too.

Something akin to what the Who spin off's did with an audio/book/comic range where each Doctor got a new story, but in this case with each Trek series getting one new adventure (I know Trek doesn't really do auido, but perhaps S&S could put out something similar to the Destiny of the Doctors series that were just a read story by a surviving cast member?).

But most of all, a good film.
