50 Shades Of Grey phenomenon? Mommy porn outsells Potter and Twilight

Re: 50 Shades Of Grey phenomenon? Mommy porn outsells Potter and Twili

. . . I'm starting to think it isn't that difficult to write popular novels.
Especially popular sex novels. Anyone here old enough to remember Naked Came the Stranger?

Eh, BDSM culture seems to employ a lot of leather. :p
And whips. And ropes, chains and handcuffs (don't forget my favorite part!)

Leaving aside whether or not this unexpected sight would be sexy (I can't be sure; it's only ever happened to me on public transport), let's examine what Christian says as he stands there, wanger in hand: "I want you to become well acquainted, on first name terms if you will, with my favourite and most cherished part of my body."
Or, as Jackson Browne once said: "Honey, let me introduce you to my redneck friend."

. . . I read the wiki article on the plot for both the main book and trilogy plans and just...this is outselling two major franchises? can't they just google some fetish porn?
Most internet porn, whether fetish or plain vanilla, is made by and for men. I can see how an erotic literature series written with the female reader in mind would be popular. Although, after reading the review linked above, I do wonder what all the fuss is about.

ADDENDUM:
This, I think, is the real 21st-century fantasy. That's the erotica. A masterful man who demands, constantly, that our heroine eats.
Ah, now I get it!

BTW, when I saw "Mommy porn" in the thread title, I thought it had something to do with incest. Oooooh, do I have a dirty mind!

My Immortal was Harry Potter. And someone's actually come forward on FF saying he was Tara Gilesbie.

The popular Mortal Instruments book series started out as Harry Potter incest fan fiction.

The Diamond Club: A Novel is currently sitting at number 4 on the iBooks charts.

I wanted to buy a copy - I wouldn't miss 99c - but unfortunately it isn't available in Australian iTunes store :(. If Aussies had been able to buy the book it might have been in third place by now.

In Lighter Shades of Grey the author mentions one of the sillest things that Anastasia Steele says in 50 Shades of Grey (at least in my opinion).

The radio crackles into life, and Mark mentions three thousand feet. Jeez that sounds high. I checked the ground, and I can no longer distinguish anything down there
I often go to the top of Mount Wellington, the mountain that towers over my city. It is 4170 feet high. From the top of Mt Wellington I can clearly make out the Tasman Bridge and West Point Casino which are several miles away. Yet Anastasia can't see anything 3000 feet below?

She's in love with a 'master'. Don't you think some level of myopia is involved? :)

Edited because I forgot we weren't in TNZ.

Obviously the author didn't do any research.

She probably just went on wiki to learn more about BDSM, instead of actually watching videos of it. A common complaint that I keep hearing is how it seems like the book was written by a 15 year old girl.

Damn, now I'm REALLY curious about what you posted. Can you give us a hint about what you deleted?;)

Almost poetry isn't it?

Though I think 50 Shades of Yorkshire was better.

Much of Internet "porn without plot" fanfiction - including a lot of BDSM ones - are written by women and for women. Which is actually where this book originated from.

It brought it tear to my eye.

I clicked the link. The writer of that profound, meaningful piece had an apostrophe in the wrong place in the title. Oddly, I didn't read any further.

You are a woman after my own heart, RevdKathy.

I still can't believe the main characters are named Anastasia Steele and Christian Grey.

So apparently a lot of it is about Grey's anatomy? ;)

This has to be the best review of this book.

Explains the real reason women are reading it!

When I wanted erotic fiction, I had to read Michel Hoeuellebecq, which I considered to be porn for intellectuals at the time (there's also a considerable amount of story between the often rather sad sex scenes). I still appreciate him for writing the funniest masturbation scene ever. He's mellowed considerably over the years and the focus of his books have shifted. At the time, others were riding on his wave of popularity, e.g. Catherine Millet who wrote about her sex life (which also included BDSM I think).
Of course, in the meantime, we've had several rather traumatising books by women writing about their sexual fantasies so this book seems rather harmless in comparison, even though it's supposedly about BDSM. I think many people read it because it's en vogue right now.

They are working on opening it to international sales... it's apparently a little more complicated.

Re: 50 Shades Of Grey phenomenon? Mommy porn outsells Potter and Twili

We, at the Trekbbs, should write our own erotic book. We could call it "A Couple of Shades of Blue" or something like that.

Anyone got any ideas about what we should call our characters?
