50 Shades Of Grey phenomenon? Mommy porn outsells Potter and Twilight

Re: 50 Shades Of Grey phenomenon? Mommy porn outsells Potter and Twili

Just because every woman is gonna want to see it, and every man with a wife or girlfriend will take them... because if there's one movie to go see that's gonna guarantee you getting laid afterwards, it's gonna be this one :)
You're confusing movies with musicals.

I wouldn't be surprised if this is massive, maybe into the Top 10 or 20 all time box office.

Yeah, I don't think so. Here's Wikipedia's list of the highest-grossing films. I don't see it breaking the top 20 at all - no broad, family appeal, like Frozen or the Harry Potter movies; unlikely to have huge rewatch numbers; and I bet a lot of people will wait until Netflix or DVD, to avoid embarrassment (like people buying it on Kindle to avoid being seen with the physical book).

I'm looking forward to seeing the movie.

^Yeah, Patrick, that was our reaction too.

One of the reviews says that it is a bit odd for a spanker's movie, there isn't a single penis in it - erect, flaccid or otherwise.

One of the reviews says that it is a bit odd for a spanker's movie, there isn't a single penis in it - erect, flaccid or otherwise.

It's very hard (no pun intended... Oh, fuck it, it's intended.) to show an erect penis in a movie and for it to not become NC-17, in fact I think it's impossible. You can show a flaccid one but only in certain contexts and I'm sure only for so much/so long. Plus, your actor has be willing to show it.

Everything I'm hearing has this movie being very tame compared to the source material. In fact:

Brad Jones in his Midnight Review (with Sarah) seemed to take the movie as very being very tame and actually not as bad as he had feared.

Which is disappointing to me. I wanted to see this movie to experience how bad it is, but from what I've heard and seen it's not terrible. Or "the right kind of terrible" it's just boring compared to the source material. Brad and Sarah did seem to think the actress does a good job and the actor sucked.

So, I guess I won't go see it out of a morbid curiosity. I mean, I loved going to see the Twilight movies because they were ridiculously bad. Entertainingly bad.

This movie sounds like it's just a dud.

Well, here's a take that women might find more helpful:

I want to see it out of curiosity and if it's as terrible as people are saying.

Re: 50 Shades Of Grey phenomenon? Mommy porn outsells Potter and Twili

So anybody go (get dragged to) see it?

Re: 50 Shades Of Grey phenomenon? Mommy porn outsells Potter and Twili

Female colleague of mine saw it, was disappointed at the lack of explicite action and said it was a bad movie (pretty much what every review says).

Another female colleague will go see it soon, in her group will be her aunt too :wtf:
She said she's never seen porn (as if!) and she hopes it's not too explicit.

I guess the movie will still make a huge profit (it only cost around 40 million i heard) so sequels are guaranteed. I will surely catch it once it airs on TV because sometimes i just want to see some bad stuff but i expect a cringe fest ;)

Re: 50 Shades Of Grey phenomenon? Mommy porn outsells Potter and Twili

I was amused by the fairly uptight conservative brother telling me today how his wife - who read the 50 Shades books - dragged him to see the movie. He really like it and thought it was really racy and scandalous.

I have absolutely no interest in seeing or reading it but I've heard a lot of bad reviews enough to convince me I'd never want to see it.
