The new Phaser pistol is silver and looks like a fusion of the TOS model and the ST V Assault Phaser
Enterprise has its own Medic Evac shuttle
The Kelvin Uniforms, while obviously older, appear to be all blue and the shirt has some strange thicker part from the back around the neck

Personally, I'm loving how everyone who has seen clips or the movie itself are all loving it... it definately gives me a lot of enthusiasm for it!

Well, one thing is clear: it seems to look fantastic, definetely a movie to see on the big screen at the cinema, even if the story turns out to be shallow.

Re: *SPOILERS* XI: Can I give my spin on what I think's gonna happen..

I'm just hoping that when Kirk et al sort it out at the end of the film, that last shot we're gonna see when the time line's fixed, is a long shot of the TOS-Ent (as it was!).
Meh, the only thing I like less than a movie/ episode pushing the rest button is a movie/ episode pushing a reset button when it isn't really needed. And to be honest, that would kind of be silly for Abrams to give his view and his imagining of a 40+ year old show, only to include a throw in scene of everything returned to "normal" because some of the fans don't want his image of the future to be the new norm (and that's really all it would be: pleasing some of the fans). I think it would be nothing more than a cop out on Abrams' part to include the final scene you're describing, IMHO.

Yeah, there is simply no way he is going to go through the trouble of rebooting it just to hit the return to default settings button at the end of the movie.

Nero's ship looks like a christmas tree. So they are keeping some TOS elements.

Also some elements from the original release date.

Whoa... cardassians? Well guys... that name for an alien species was not very original in the first place... i mean it was derived from italian "Cardaccia" or something like that.

I'm sorry, but here in Italy no word for "cardaccia".
Maybe in the 23th century... ;)

It really says something, especially when you consider other highly anticipated movies from the last ten years which were panned at screenings, previews, and what have you. (Star Wars and the Matrix, I'm looking in your direction... :shifty:)

The clip where Sulu drops down to the drilling platform and attacks like one of the star wars prequel jedi has me ROFL

Older uniforms appear to be all blue, eh?

Enterprise, anyone?

Could be some Enterprise in there. It does say shirt though, not jumpsuit.

Especially if everyone in charge and acting is still hoping for multiple movies. They're definately not going to waste their time returning to the "default settings" if they plan on doing more.

Re: *SPOILERS* XI: Can I give my spin on what I think's gonna happen..

Returning to default settings could work; once the crisis is over & everything is back to normal the stage could then be set for these actors to do more stories in this time period if they wanted to. Providing big screen worthy stories still exist. I wouldn't want them to fall back into the habit of giving small screen stories big screen treatment. (INS, NEM)

No big deal, you can't please everyone. Take Robert April up there: he wouldn't be happy unless the movie was composed of footage cut-and pasted from the old episodes and based on a novel written by DC Fontana. Who gives a shit, he'll probably go see it anyways, enjoy it, and then come here and complain about how much he hated it. C'est la vie!

Speak for yourself, Spanky.

Nah, I think I'll continue to put words in your mouth as long as you continue to maintain the transparency of your unreasonable opinions. :)

Well from what I have read it sounds like one big teenage writers fan wank. Too much interaction between the main cast early in their careers.

I suppose it's okay if this is a full blown re-boot or somehow the time travel story line has changed things.

I'll watch it of course, but I can't help getting the Harve Bennett "Starfleet Acadamy" taste in my mouth!

wait, I'm confused.

Rebooting it is fan-wank.

And keeping it traditional is fan-wank.

What gives?

If it is a complete reboot then no, it's not fan-wank.

If it's traditional then having so much interaction with the main characters as cadets is fan-wank, like a basement fan movie.

Sure it's possible that they could have met at the academy but having watched TOS over and over BEFORE it got hacked up for commercials I never had the slightest impression that they knew each other from way back. That's why it seems like fan-wank, IMO.

Sulu, Uhura and Chekov already in the academy /before/ Kirk?

Oh Brother...why is it so difficult for Hollywood to grasp terms and lengths of service in any organization?

The scenes sound great to me..just the ..well I mean wow. Im not going off about canon just ...well we will see its only 4 clips

Still holding out hope :)

^If someone has a much more distinguished service, I suppose it's conceivable that someone could ascend the ranks faster than others. And based on the descriptions of some of those scenes, Pike runs off and makes Spock captain and Kirk first officer, then it is conceivable that something happens to them in a similar fashon that happened to Picard. Picard first got his own command after his commanding office died (if I remember correctly). So, Pike places those two in charge, and he ends up dying (yes, I know that it's "against canon!!!"), or he disappears temporarily or he ends up reassigned, or something happens to leave the ship in Spock's control. We then have the above link that datas_cat_spot provided, which discusses Old Spock giving Kirk the code to relieve Spock of command, which then explains how Kirk got the command.

We really don't know the time periods being represented in the movie. For instance, in the publicity stills, the rank insignia on McCoy, Sulu, and Spock look like the insignia they wore on TOS. So who knows? I mean why stay true to the old uniforms if those ranks don't mean the same thing? So, that would mean they were together before Kirk. It's obviously Kirk in this movie who is "out of time."

All we know is something happened the day of Kirk's birth that probably shouldn't have. For that reason, I'm guessing, Kirk didn't go to Starfleet when he should have (or when we presume he did) and that's what changed history. After all, from one of the clips we know Kirk is aware that old Spock is using them to change history. He may just not know to what end.
