4 Clip descriptions from Empire *Spoiler heavy*

^Well, if the farm animal quote was your biggest issue, it might not hurt to go sheck out the other 4 scenes... it really is some pretty neat stuff.

Actually, most of it I loved, and really made me excited to see the movie. Particularly the Vulcan stuff sounds awesome (Finally, the Romulans are attacking Vulcan, their 'sworn enemy forever and ever amen' instead of Earth-for-some-reason!)

But that 'sex with animals' line: :wtf: Is that supposed to be funny? flirtatious? It's just an awful, awful line, Star Trek or not. Crass stereotype toilet humour, just what I was hoping for :borg:

Kirk was hitting on Uhura the second he saw her in the bar. He was just some random guy to her, so it was a gentle insult to get rid of him.

I guess that's why the kiss in "Plato's Stepchildren" was so awkward.

It could be a lot worse. AND much better. But what can we do? This is the "new" Classic Enterprise whether some of us would do better and different or not.

Personally, I think it has a certain "Pimp My Enterprise" look to it.

Sounds pretty good so far! Soulds like most of the humor works, I do agree that the sex with farm animals line was a little surpising, but I don't see where it's really worth getting that worked up over. IMO it seems like the kind of thing someone would say in that situation, all that was happening was Uhura was trying to get ride of some druken moron, and so she tried to insult him and Kirk simply responds. Most of the action sounds pretty cool too, especially the attack on the drill, I can't wait to actually see that scene in the theatre. The character stuff sounds pretty good too. I'm really happy with the new Enterprise. It looks different and more futuristic, but at the same time it is still recognizeable as the Enterprise, and since that is exactly what I was hoping for I am happy.

This goes against much of the negativity here but I'm lloving what I am reading from the 4 clips. May can't come any faster!

So, does Kirk become a captain 3, 7, or 8 years after joining starfleet?

Pike tells Kirk he can do 4 years in the academy and have his own ship in 8. When McCoy brings Kirk on board Enterprise, Kirk is not assigned to any vessel. I wouldn't be surprised if Kirk doesn't achieve the rank of Captain in this film at all.

Did anyone mention how much time had transpired? It could be several years after graduation before Kirk sneaked aboard the Enterprise.

This sounds pretty awesome. Though it seems Kirk is entering the Acadamy after Sulu, Uhura, etc. Now that's going to make some heads spin.

That's as far as I read. Uhura is ordering Cardassian drinks? Referance to Cardassians in the 23rd century?

COCKFUCKERY!!!!

The problem here is what?

Oh, you're absolutely right. After all, it's not as if the Federation had no contact with the Cardassians in the 23rd century.

Oh wait, they didn't. And that is the problem.

I am surprised you watched any Star Trek. Cardassians were well known by the Vulcans and other races well into the 22nd century.

The descriptions sound absolutely awesome! It's like what we truly need in Star Trek, a new fresh feel in it. :bolian:

Kirk hasn't been assigned a vessel because of trouble he's in at the Academy, necessitating McCoy getting him onboard by deception. Why Kirk wants on board, I'm not sure. I'm sure I remember Pike calling Kirk "Cadet" too (and Uhura, come to think of it, who was at the Academy at the same time).

Huh? Where do you get that from? Although a date has neven been established for when contact between the Federation and Cardassians has been made, it's always been implied to be between TOS and TNG.

DS9 mentions a Cardassian poet living on Vulcan in the 22nd century.

I've always considered that a continuity anomaly which I've ignored.
:wtf: Jesus Christ, dude! I am not sure if you are just trying to make people angry or are dead serious anymore.

The idea of a Cardassian poet living on Vulcan in the 22nd century just didn't fit with established facts, and it was never expanded on or explained, so I saw no need to acknowledge it.
I'm not clear on how a Cardassian being a poet or living on Vulcan in the 22nd century contradicts anything. Are there specific episodes you can cite where elements contradict each other? Are Cardassians not allowed to have poets or something?

 I liked that last sentence. But regardless, it has always been implied that the Federation hadn't made contact with the Cardassians until between TOS and TNG, as there had been no referance whatsoever to Cardassian contact prior to the 24th century. With the exception of this weird mention of a poet living on Vulcan in the 22nd century, which has never been properly explained, so is best left ignored.

Simply because you say so...right...:guffaw:

Archer probably had a bunch of beagles over the years. The one Scotty killed is probably his 8th. :p

Man, you'd think Scotty offing Porthos would have raised more eyebrows than a friggin drink.

Even though I don't personally give a shit about the drink "violation," I think the Porthos thing is not raising eyebrows because:

1) It's not a canon violation (well, okay it is but that's super nitpicky.)

and

2) It's funny as hell

I dont' happen to think it's funny...whatever happened to Starfleet's vaunted ethical standards. It would never approve using a life form as an experimental subject like that...

Poor Porthos! I really liked that cute little beagle. He was one of the few enjoyable characters on Enterprise, which doesn't say much for the actual bipedal, speaking cast, does it?

*raises a glass* Porthos, we hardly knew ye.

Oh please, we can just start assembling avatars denying Porthos died and wait for Pocket Books to completely contradict it with a novel of what "actually" happened.

On second thought, maybe they should actually be useful and do such a novel for this movie.

Obviously, it can't be the SAME Porthos, if the dog's name even IS Porthos.

Still doesn't make the line work...

There was a Cardassian extra in The Seventh.

Actually, no. There was a Cardassian wired up to that sentient space station in Dead Stop. And the Organian posessing Mayweather in Observer Effect mentioned Cardassians.

Well, this could mean two things: Starfleet was well aware of the Cardassian presence in the galaxy, OR one of them just happened to be on that sentient station ("We need another alien guy! Who do we use?" "We've got this Cardassian make-up ready!" "Okay, use that; who cares? Not like anyone will notice.") and the Organians were aware of their existence while Starfleet wasn't.

Either way, their mention in this movie is about as worrisome to me as a cloudy day.

Same with Dax being on Earth attending Ol' Miss with McCoy for that matter...
