4 Clip descriptions from Empire *Spoiler heavy*

Remarkably, you notice who hasn't said anything but good things about the movie?

Answer: anyone who's seen any of it.

After reading the descriptions of the clips in the first link, I think I understand why. There is enthusiasm in those descriptions, the kind I haven't seen associated with Trek in a good long while. It sounds like the characters are really being brought to life. This is going to be good.

Hey, I didn't say that... though it does mirror my own thoughts.
Fixed the quote tags.

<snipping apparently offensive message...>
Shatterhand, I asked you once before not to do that. Please don't do it again.

I apologize for my offense. I'm just growing rather disgruntled at all of the negativity over details that, in my mind, shouldn't have such a significant effect on one's enjoyment of this movie.

I guess what I'm left to wonder is why my statement is so terrible when such narrow-mindedness goes unquestioned. If you intend to suggest it's because my statement is directed at one person in particular, it really isn't, so that argument doesn't really apply.

If you wish to ban me, feel free. I really couldn't care less at this point.
I don't wish to ban you, nor anyone.

He stated an opinion, based on his reaction to a particular detail. He's allowed to do that, as you are allowed to state your opinion on the details... or an opinion about his opinion; that's what this forum is for.

It's when you move from discussing the content and substance of a post to making an assessment of someone's mental state or recommending they seek treatment for having expressed such an opinion that you cross into areas we'd rather you left alone. As a general rule, "post, not poster" is the way to go. He's entitled to express an opinion, whether negative, positive or indifferent, and you are entitled to agree or disagree, as you see fit. Just don't make it personal, all right? :)

I think that we, as a fanbase, have been immersed in the post-TNG PC brand of Trek for so long that we think that anything said that is off color (read: funny and depricating) is heretic and should never be spoken by a Trek character. I think it's refreshing, IMO. Anything to erase the visual toxin that is Fan Dancing Uhura.

Ha! Well personally, to me it wasn't about "That isn't what Star Trek is" crap or anything like that. Just even in general, I would have been a little more subtle about it. Maybe do it more tounge-in-cheek, if there is anyway to tastefully do that with bestiality!

Huh? Where do you get that from? Although a date has neven been established for when contact between the Federation and Cardassians has been made, it's always been implied to be between TOS and TNG.

DS9 mentions a Cardassian poet living on Vulcan in the 22nd century.

I've always considered that a continuity anomaly which I've ignored.
Oh Christ. :guffaw:

It's such a shame that we're not allowed to utterly mock and violate others in this forum. There are some people in here who deserve absolutely nothing less.

Shatterhand: Wooah there newbie. You might want to direct your less than friendly fire at repeat offenders. I stand by my one and only comment here. You also might want to get used to fans who have different opinions. I don't imagine I will be the last, who is less than impressed at the dialogue.

For the record (and feel free to check this), the majority of my posts going back several years are quite positive. I was looking forward to this film. I speak as I find and that first extract bears no resemblance to the TOS characters I grew up watching. Your mileage will undoubtedly vary, especially if it's based soley on what you've been told.

I think I'm done here.

Whoa... cardassians? Well guys... that name for an alien species was not very original in the first place... i mean it was derived from italian "Cardaccia" or something like that.

And there's nothing in canon that says Cardassian FOOD wasn't encountered in Kirk's time, even before the species itself. We know from "Trials and Tribbleations(DS9)" that Tarkalean tea was served on Station K-7 even though we see no evidence of Tarkaleans themselves running about in the Federation of Kirk's era.

Sound like that by destroying the Kelvin, Nero changed the timeline drastically. Being raised by his uncle instead of George Kirk Sr. lead to Kirk becoming a small town drunk instead of the respected Starfleet officer who was given command of the Enterprise.

I havnt read anything on the trailers, well, tell a lie, i have.

I kinda got the jist of it from random other posters in the thread.

So what, cannon has been violated slightly, it was Berman who violated our fanbase in the first place with Voyager and Enterprise and the latter TNG movies.

Im trying to avoid any info on the trailer until i see, then ill bitch and chat with you guys. I dont want to ruin the trailer experience before i see it, its one of those things, i did the same with Indy4, and to this day i still prefere the trailers to the actual movie.

And, finally, the new Enterprise:

First of all, ChristopherPike, I'm not going to snap at that bait. I apologize not only to the group but to you for what I said. It was insensitive and mean, and I'm a better person than to resort to tactics like that. Once again, I apologize. HOWEVER, I will say one last thing before I drop the topic for good: my newbie status has nothing to do with the validity or invalidity of what I said. It's a matter of how wide or narrow one chooses their point of view to be. I prefer to keep mine much wider; others do not. To each their own.

ANYWAY, on to other things...BenRoethig, I'm wondering if you could be right about that spoiler. It would certainly explain the differences, and give hope to those clinging desperately to canon.

And, finally, the new Enterprise:

Oh, yes. Yes! Y-E-S!

I like this. I DEFINATELY like this. It's got nods to the original Enterprise with fronts of the nacelles and the straighter rather than angled nacelle struts, and nods to the refit one from the early movies with the deflector dish, the photon torpedo tubes, and the side saucer section window ports.

VERY nicely done.

*cringes as he prepares to read a whole new barrage of people dismissing the movie as a failure and a raping of their childhoods...*shudder* *

It could be a lot worse. AND much better. But what can we do? This is the "new" Classic Enterprise whether some of us would do better and different or not.

It looks like they rolled every model of Enterprise together in some starship-o-matic and this is what came out. Saucer and torpedo launchers looks TMP, the deflector is TOS with a TMP glow, the proportions of the secondary hull look like the -D, the nacelle pylons look like they're from the -E, and the nacelles...haven't quite figured that one out yet. It's going to be a lot harder for people to think that this isn't a reboot.

Its ok, but not great.

It looks like a random creation of different starship parts, as if a box of supplies was thrown onto a frame covered in glue.

At this moment, as im tired, is prefer the Croener Enterpise. *Ducks* It seems a more faithful re-design.

I donno, ill sleep on it. Still ont too sure though, i wasnt expecting anytihng that, well, drastic.

Still, it has all the hallmarks so i wont beat around the bush.
