God... the nitpicking about Uhura ordering a Cardassian drink and, to a lesser extent, those who talked about the Porthos reference in a legitimately serious manner... seriously... my head is about to
explode.
(Exhale)
OK. Feeling a bit better now.
So, I've been weary of spoilers ever since I learned that Data died in Nemesis months before I saw the film. Obviously, that information completely spoiled the film's climax for me. Sure, it wasn't a great film, but still... I can only wonder what my first viewing of Nemesis would've been like had I not known the aforementioned. Now I'll never know.
Point is, coming into this film I wanted to make sure that I didn't spoil it for myself in the same way that I did Nemesis. And while the time
may come where I close off my lines of communication to the film, I am glad -- ultimately -- that I checked out those descriptions. They really provide a good sense of some of the film's story elements. And, not to mention, a taste of its scale.
It all sounds really good. I like Kirk hitting on Uhura. I love that Urban is supposedly dead-on as McCoy. I like learning a little more about what old Spock's interactions with the crew will be like. I like getting a glimpse of what some of the action scenes will be like. I like that, apparently, Robert April has officially been excised from Trek (why people were so beholden to a character that appeared
once on TAS is beyond me, anyway).
And I could go on. All I can say if that I'm counting down the days 'til Friday...
