3D interiors in Blender

Been having a hard time getting into 3D stuff outside of work lately for multiple reasons. I have worked on-and-off in like 4 different rooms but I can't seem to stick with any one of them for more a weekend. Posting this in the hopes that it pressures me into finishing it hahaha.

My backstory for Fontana Station is that it's a starbase built in orbit of Babel to host diplomatic conferences in the TOS movies era. To that end, I always envisioned it having very utilitarian looking Starfleet areas, and more comfortable looking civilian areas for all the diplomatic stuff. I started to built what would be one of its main conference rooms, with the style taken from the Enterprise-A lounge seen in The Final Frontier.

The table is obviously based on the TUC Starfleet HQ table, and will have similar details (like the Jazz table lights) added later. I might replace the chairs too for the TUC designs. At one end of the room right now I have a couple auxiliary tables alongside the UFP and Starfleet flags. I intend to have 6 or 7 flags on their own along the opposite wall representing various political entities, mostly taken from TUC's Khitomer Conference scene I'd imagine.

I'd likely also have a more decorative ceiling structure, and perhaps some retractable screens at the center of the room, I'm not sure yet.

It would be awfully huge, so you'd probably want to add other elements to that central ceiling area, but I was thinking maybe you could do something inspired by the glass dome with the UFP logo they had on the roof of the turbolift of the Enterprise-B.

This is a great start, and I'm glad to see you working on your own stuff again. :techman:

@cardinal biggles: Oh, I have something in mind for that space, as you'll see below. Never was a big fan of that UFP logo dome. :p

@137th Gebirg: Thanks!

I decided to add a holographic projector on the floor at the center of the room, given that I had already included one in Ops. By default it shows a large planter to occupy that center space, but it can obviously remove said planter and show floating screens or comm-links if needed. I intend to refine the colors and light intensity of the projectors once the overall lighting of the room is more dialed in.

I also started with the central ceiling piece, based on the similar piece from the TUC Enterprise-A observation lounge set. It's still very early and I need to add a ton of details to it (and to the ceiling surrounding it), but it gives an idea of where I'm going.

Well, like I said when I first showed the conference room, I'm having a hard time focusing on any one room, and the release of some new blueprints for the Ent-E ready room made me go back to an old concept of mine for the USS Cerberus ready room.

Like the ship's bridge, it's larger than standard for the class as it's an Admiral's ready room, so while I originally intended to replicate the Enterprise-E's desk from those blueprints, I ended up modifying its shape so it's symmetrical and thus larger.

The rest of the room is very basic at the moment. I intend to add a UFP logo on the wall behind the desk, as it's something we often saw behind Admirals when they contacted the Enterprise in TNG. The walls opposite the desk will have the usual window into space, sofa, and a large screen. Plus I intend to have a model of the Cerberus somewhere alongside other miscellaneous decor items.

So here's my idea, piggy-backing on Firebird's suggestion:

office-alcove-idea.jpg

You have a holo-alcove in that wall, with a field strong enough that the holographic image would be able to walk around a little bit (maybe within a 2-meter radius of the alcove). When not in use, the wall puts up a piece of artwork or some other design feature (taking a page from Professor Data's holographic fireplace in "All Good Things...").

(Apologies for my absolutely terrible skills in slapping that together. :p )

nah. It's nice.

Well, I did include a holo-communicator thing based on the All Good Things fireplace, but it's not as involved as having its own alcove, as I still want to maintain the more relaxed look of a ready room. A couple times we saw full-scale holograms on DS9 being projected on Sisko's office without the need of a dedicated emitter, so we can assume there's something on the ceiling or below the floor that achieves the same effect without the need of a bulky piece of equipment (of course in reality it was just whenever the director wanted a more dramatic delivery than what was possible via a prerecorded viewscreen conversation).

Tweaked the room layout a bit more, and decided to model thinner columns instead of reusing the ones from the bridge. I was gonna have a large window on one of the wall segments, but I decided instead to add a large curve opposite the desk and have the window there. Not sure if I'll keep the sofas underneath it yet.

Added the aforementioned screen on the side based on the AGT holographic screen, as being an Admiral's office it might incorporate some of the holo-communicator tech often seen in DS9. I also included a model of the Cerberus (by David Metlesits) on that wall.

I like it! The added details and furniture make the space feel a lot less cavernous.

It seems like it’s still missing something, but I’m not sure what… I need to dig out one of my earlier drafts of Star Trek: TMP for the original scene in Nogura’s office. It leads off with a really good description of the arrangement and layout of the set.

Looks great! Is it missing something on the wall behind the desk? A big screen with a galaxy map, or even a UFP flag?
anime waifu poster (perhaps kei and/or yuri....) :P

some plants, maybe. a little table between the visitor chairs, whereupon to rest a drink or a padd. trinkets, tchotchkes, and knick-knacks from the station commander's adventures, or cultural artifacts from the worlds in the area it serves...

Like I mentioned before I was gonna do a UFP seal for the wall behind the desk, however I noticed this screen with a unique version of the logo on Nemesis and went for that style instead. I think it gives the wall a bit more character than just the standard logo, which I felt like I've been using too much lately.

I think it's my first time trying to do such a thing on Inkscape, tho I didn't go for a 1:1 reproduction, as my version isn't meant to be an animated screen but rather a backlit piece of artwork.

The more I looked at the AGT-inspired screen, the least I liked how it looked. It clashed with the rest of the style as it was too TNG and blocky, so I ended up swapping it for the same screen I used on sickbay. I also increased the size of the ceiling light panel on this area significantly, so it's much better illuminated.

I also created a table for the space between the sofas, based on the unused end table from the Ent-E ready room blueprints, I gave it a wood top surface and an inset storage area below. Finally, I added the chairs for the desk, and some sconces on the wall.

Big picture I think I'm happy with the room now, now down to the smaller details and props, LCARS, etc.
