3D interiors in Blender

Haha, yeah I thought about it as an upgraded Archer-Class myself, the size and crew compliments are rather similar. :)

sigh... Well, the Lafayette bridge is almost completely done, but I'm waiting for approval on several items before sharing. Unfortunately I haven't heard from my client for weeks now... I have some more commissions going (plus my increasing non-Trek work) but honestly this year is reaching a frustrating point with how many times I've had to stop on my tracks when a commission is almost done, just as with Orion and Ranger now.

The wind is kinda off my sails, so once again I'm shifting to a quick personal project for a few days. As stated a few times before, I've been meaning to have a ship I use as a TMP-era playground for ideas, kinda like how I use the Potemkin for the TNG-era. Once again using a canon starship, I've decided to take on the Constellation-Class USS Victory NCC-9754. While the ship appeared in TNG, given that registry number we can safely assume it's been around since the late-TMP era.

As with the two Constellation-Class bridges seen in canon (Stargazer and Hathaway) I've used the TNG battle bridge as a base, more specifically the modified version I did for the USS Merced bridge. I went with the color scheme from the Enterprise-B as base, as well as its Captain's chair.

In an effort to differentiate this bridge from others I've already made, I did some stuff that I don't particularly like on Trek bridges, such as placing a central aft door directly behind the Captain's chair; as well as having mostly standing consoles rather than seated ones.

Anyway, after a few hours of work (this is mostly stuff I already had, after all), here's how it's looking. Most of the LCARS will need work or replacing (I'm thinking big MSDs flanking the viewscreen), and there are currently two stations labeled 'Tactical', I'll be replacing the side one with 'Engineering'. What do you think of it so far? Is it too dark? I was thinking of increasing the lights levels. Comments and suggestions very much welcome on this one, being a personal project. :)

@cardinal biggles: You'll have to read what I posted yesterday to find out, it's in there! :p

Glad you're all liking it so far, I made the lights a bit brighter, I think it's better while still being rather moody.

I've tweaked some of the fabric materials, and began changing up the LCARS and stations at the back. As you can see, the aft 'Tactical' station got replaced by 'Science', while 'Comms' at the other side got replaced with 'Engineering' (Tactical can handle comms, just like Worf does on TNG).

I've also started the MSD next to the viewscreen. The other side will probably have a front view, next to a little starchart.

Looks awesome! I'm a sucker for both, Constellation class ships and smaller bridges, so this is right up my alley. In terms of possible things to add, how about a dedication plaque, or am I just not seeing what's already there?

I'd be tempted to say turn the pair of monitors beside Mission Ops and Environmental into a trio, with one placed above the two already there. That or move them up a little as the lowest screen doesn't seem very user friendly for the average humanoid crewmember.

Maybe some access/isolinear chip panels under the MSD, just so the walls there don't look quite so bare?

@Rekkart, if the Chief of Security is the one at tactical, and they have their back to the turbolift, wouldn't a boarding party be able to simultaneously stop the ship from firing and disrupt efforts to counter their invasion simply by shooting the first person they see in the back as they get off the turbolift? On the other hand, if you simply make one of the other two door the turbolift, and the door at the rear goes to something like the briefing room, captain's ready room, or the head.

In fact, I like the fact that the person in charge of shields and weapons gets to the toilet and back as quickly as possible. (Of course, that does mean that he can smell whenever someone exits, but let's assume that problem has been solved in the future.) Then again, perhaps there's a hallway back there or something, and the head is one of the first doors back there. Then again, the tactical officer may always feel like someone is going to come up behind them and look over their shoulder to see if they're doing their job. So I guess my real objection boils down to Feng Shui! ;)

Anyone attempting to board a ship would most likely beam aboard, which would set off internal sensors and alert everyone to the incursion, those that could make it to a weapons locker would as others go at the intruders in unarmed combat to safeguard their crewmates.

If they were boarding through shuttles, then this time they'd detect them on approach, the airlock/shuttlebay being forced, and then their progress through the ship via internal sensors, all of which would give the crew time to arm themselves and prepare to repel the hostiles before they got anywhere near the bridge.

Your point does raise an issue I've always had in having the head of security and senior weapons officer being one and the same, when there are numerous circumstances when you'd need to have them both in different locations for the different aspects of their jobs.

@Michael and @cardinal biggles: Mmm, interesting that you both didn't see the dedication plaque easily. On the latest renders I had changed its colors to better match the Ent-B plaque, making it darker. I've reverted its colors back to what I was using before, from the Merced bridge, do you think this is better? :)

@valkyrie013: Oh, I wouldn't like it either! As I mentioned on the first post about this bridge, I'm purposely doing a few things I don't like on this one in an effort to prevent all my bridges from looking too similar. Both the door directly behind the Captain and the standing consoles are for that reason.

@Bry_Sinclair: Those screens certainly aren't very user friendly, they are directly lifted from the TMP bridge (and TNG battle bridge, etc.). Kirk and Spock use the upper one in TWoK, and my back hurts from just looking at them. I gather they are for displaying info rather than actual use, and I'll be replacing the graphic on the bottom ones to just some schematics just like they had on the Enterprise-A behind Kirk.

@Matthew Raymond: I pondered about this when deciding what door goes where. In the end, I would imagine that the security officer would have an alert on their console whenever a turbolift is approaching the bridge, so that they could always be ready. Plus, it would be better that any boarding party has to directly confront the tactical officer before getting a clear shot at the Captain, which would be a problem with any of the other two doors. Besides, when looking at the exterior shape of the Constellation, the bridge module has a clear turbolift protrusion directly behind the bridge, TOS style, so it would match the exterior and interior somewhat (even if the Stargazer and Hathaway both made this point moot already).

Been experimenting with some red alert indicators for the bridge. I want it to have clear red bars instead of just changing the overhead lighting, so I decided to add them to the empty space above the console keyboards. I'll add a similar indicator to the top of the helm console once I finish the LCARS for that element.

Ooh yes, it's much more obvious now. Personally, I like it better that way, yes. The whole thing looks awesome! :)
