3D interiors in Blender

I love this room and all the little nods to other briefing rooms... the vertical wall panels like Voyager, the TNG chairs and ship wall, and the support columns from "The Cage" and WNMHGB.

Lovely 24th century looking design - you managed to include elements of the voyager briefing table whilst maintaining a practical look. I like it!

@cardinal biggles: Thank you very much! I tried to keep the visual continuity with TNG while also incorporating a more 23th Century base structure, considering the Potemkin's supposed to be an old ship. :)

@SCE2Aux: Thanks! :) The briefing table is directly modeled off of the deck 2 structure on the Excelsior class, with a holo-communicator similar to those of early TNG.

Going back to work, we've had a change of colors on the transporter room! The walls are now grey (as those of the Galaxy bridge) while the little extrusions are now teal.

I've also been working on the floor texture for the little platform at the side of the room, plus I've tweaked the vertical lights next to the pad, so that they have more depth and a light gradient. Plus, I've added some more labels.

Excellent! I'm not too big on the teal with that grey/tan, but I'm loving seeing a two-tone color scheme!

Now we're talkin'! Love the way you think. :)

Eh, what does @Donny know?

J/K.

Honestly, though, I don't have a problem with the color scheme. Then again, I've never been all that great on color theory.

Here's an interesting detail. Is it an optical illusion, or does this show that the panels are angled slightly, instead of sitting parallel to the wall? (look at the bottom)

Pretty certain that's an optical illusion caused by the camera lens angled downward slightly. Try it with your phone: have the camera lens higher than the middle of a wall and get the whole wall in the image at an oblique angle (not directly facing the wall).

@Rekkert I distinctly recall the recessed extrusions on the wall should be inverted from how you have it - it looks like the cylindrical pattern is carved into the wall instead of extruded outward. It could also just be my monitor :).

I think someone bumped that wall piece out of place from where it's supposed to be sitting and so it's crooked.

That set piece was originally part of the TMP sickbay, and those racks that house isolinear chips were supposed to be cryogenic storage for Dr. McCoy. I did hear it was originally intended for the Phase II transporter room (though it *DID* see time in the transporter room in TWOK).

They can also be seen through the window in McCoy's office.

I think I misunderstood. Do you mean the light panel with the grids? In that case, yes, they're angled.

It looks like the whole thing is sitting out of whack. The left side is almost at the front edge of the shelf it's sitting on, and the farthest right column of squares slowly fades into the right side of the opening from the top down. Honestly, it looks like it's just sitting there, and not attached.

@Jedman67: You mean these things? They're certainly extruded outward, with a little extrusion then carved into them. :)

Regarding that panel being angled, it's entirely possible that they aren't fixed in place and that they got removed fairly regularly to adjust the lights and whatnot. So maybe the person putting it back together simply didn't check if it was aligned properly.

I took the weekend to work on another side project, this time the Potemkin main sickbay (or Intensive Care Unit). Once again it's mostly a reuse of existing assets.

I originally wanted to base the room a bit more on the Enterprise-B sickbay we saw for 2 seconds in Generations, but that room was rectangle shaped, so it ended up being way too boring IMO.

I kept the 4 biobeds from the Enterprise-D rather than going with the bigger ward from the TMP era as this is a TNG era Excelsior after all. I imagine there's a bigger ward on the same deck as well. Speaking of decks, this is set on deck 6, as that's where all medical facilities are listed on the Excelsior turbolift okudagram created for on TUC.

The darken glass panel for the main bed was directly lifted from season 1 TNG, while the overall white lighting is a callback to the more muted light colors that were used on the TMP/TWoK sickbay. Originally I wasn't gonna reuse the padding behind the biobeds, but I noticed that on TUC they used them with pretty much exactly the same color as I was using for the Potemkin padding, so I couldn't not use them.

And yes, once I finish the Galaxy transporter room, I'll probably be making a transporter room for the Potemkin. :p
