3D interiors in Blender

@The Librarian: Hahaha, and that's why the TMP bridge was so awesome.

I always imagined that the chairs have some sort of heavy gravity device that reacts to the inertial dampeners and keeps everyone seated without the need of a belt (then again, we see everyone fly off their chairs every time the ships hit something...)

I started work on the aft LCARS, I feel like I need to finish these first before tackling the central aft wall. The only seen consoles on the Odyssey were Engineering on the right side, and Mission Ops and Science on the left side. Looking at the previous appearances of the set, it's clear that the unseen fourth station was just a repeat of the Science LCARS, as these weren't made to be seen upclose. I've decided to make the unseen station the Environmental console, as the Ent-D had one of those. Also, as it was requested, I've added an MSD there while keeping the overall shape pretty similar to the Science console, as it originally was.

I've made some small progress on the LCARS, finishing the smaller monitors. Also, the aft corridors are now quite a bit shorter, to make more space for the side rooms; otherwise the Turbolift door at the front alcove was too near to the Head door, there wasn't enough room for both to exist.

Speaking of the LCARS, the colors for them here are... weird... On different screencaps and different reuses of the set they seem to be of completely different colors, despite being the exact same design... On season 1 they seem to be of the same color combination as the Enterprise-D LCARS, but with a weird orange color predominating the keyboard area. Then on season 2 they're of the 'orange and purple' variety, so the keyboard doesn't look so out of place now. Finally for the Odyssey, they appear to be a mix of the two, with the bigger displays being orange, but the smaller row beneath them being blue/yellow.

To make matters even more confusing, the BTS pictures look completely different, and here on the Odyssey (on the top image) it seems as if even one of the keyboards was changed to the blue/yellow combination, while the other one is still orange...

I just picked the blue/yellow combination to have some consistency, but this could change...

I’m not going too deep into this.. The quick answer to your question about different colors is this..”Color Correction” The film is colored or adjusted in post. BTS photos and videos are the most accurate.

I was lucky to buy some original color film rolls from a production memeber that had the name used for them. (Color film is used to make the LCARS) TNG,DS9 and Voyager TOS Movies used color film for the graphics. (DS9,VOY, later seasons)TNG Movies FC-Nem used printed colors and I was lucky to get the color info from the same production person. I bought a ton of TNG graphics and and took one apart. The issue trying to match the film color to a new swatch is the color film will fade over time. I thought I had the right color, but it was off because of the fade. Also if you use the wrong chemicals to take apart the graphics, it will also change the color. I found that out after buying the correct color film from the production person.

Also my guess for the reason you don’t see production people giving that information out to everyone...counterfeits. Some graphics could and have gone for a ton of money. It would cost around $100 to make a graphic the size you see in the observation room (tng) and someone could sell it for $1000-$4000

Very interesting info, thanks guys! :)

I've worked on the Mission Ops console. I had little to work with so this one is definitely not pixel perfect, but I'm happy with how it turned out.

Looks great. How about sticking a graphic of a Sperm whale as an easter egg into one of the LCARS? :D

@Jedman67: Hahaha, not on this one I'm afraid, but if I ever do a TMP era ship I might add one in there.

I've finished the LCARS on the other side. Given that we don't really see the 'Engineering' label on the right side station on the Odyssey, and that I had added an MSD on the left side station, I've decided to swap the labels between the two.

I've been working on the aft wall, still some details to iron out, but the size of the elements is now pretty accurate. I'll further modify the LCARS to be a bit more unique, there's no point in having two panels labeled 'Science' there, even if it was what they truly said. I'll probably modify them to have the ship's name in there, and be kind of a 'Master Situation' console, like older ships had.

I think the aft wall's done now, having made changes to pretty much all the measurements to get them right, and then adding chamfers and stuff. I've also added a light strip at the bottom. We know that it wasn't there on the set, but it gives something more interesting to the wall...

Also, the alcoves padding color is now the same grey it was on TNG rather than lilac, it was a bit too much.

Looking very nice!

My only random suggestion is putting the flanking chairs on little round platforms like the other chairs have. They'd be a little wobbly in their current form.

When you do the LCARS, do you also work out the Red Alert scheme?

@Lt. Washburn: Mmm, that's a good point... We know the chairs didn't actually have that, but it's not seen anyway, so I'll pass the message along. :)

Regarding the red alert lights, I don't actually do them unless they're requested, but I do lay out the UV maps for them and test that they fit in their supposed areas.

I've finished some loose ends of the bridge, mainly the LCARS screens on the conn/ops consoles (that have a unique design on the Prometheus which I've replicated here); and the white labels on the aft side walls.

Also we've decided to remove the grey strip atop the side walls, as it isn't very clear if it's there.

I'm unsure about the color of the chairs so I'm doing one last check on them, it's really hard to pin down their accurate color...

Here's a test render, where I've made them slightly darker and less saturated, but I'm not entirely convinced. Thoughts?

Here's a quick color-correction I've made on the "All Good Things" screencap you posted:

It's apparent that her skin tone is off on the corrected image, but I'm pretty sure that the rest of the colors are fairly accurate.

In the end, after a lot of tests, we decided to keep the full lilac color on the chairs and walls as it was before. Only the alcoves remained a bit more muted, but still not fully grey.

I've reworked the front side wall to look more in line with the aft section of the bridge, only a few minor tweaks remain to be made.

My hat is off to you, Rekkert. You've taken what was originally kind of a disappointment -- DS9's generic "bridge of the week" with a faked tactical rail -- and turned it into something that looks worthy of a Galaxy-class starship. :techman:

This looks great. I really want to visit this bridge!

@Savage Dragon: Thank you very much! I would love to visit it as well!

I've made some last second adjustments, most notably raised the doors that lead to the aft alcoves a bit, and removed the extruded panels at the side of said doors to give the bridge a bit more of cohesion.

Here are some finished renders of this beast:

And here's the cutaway graphic, which gave me some troubles displaying the whole thing. In the end, I had to remove the aft alcoves, it was simply not possible to display them without having to sacrifice the aft consoles, and those were more important in displaying the bridge.
