3D interiors in Blender

@ashefivekay: Indeed, they do look nice and make it look more 'Galaxy'. Regarding my modeling speed, I just copied and pasted the alcoves straight from the Ent-D.

@batboy853: Haha, it was a good idea! :D

I've started on the viewscreen area. Given the step down that was added for the forward consoles, the viewscreen is a bit taller than the original Excelsior one.

I've also added the steps at the sides of the tactical station. These weren't seen on the Odyssey but I'm basing their shape on the Romulan Warbird bridge set. For the Saratoga, the original Enterprise steps were used, but I thought those wouldn't look very good on this bridge, as they look too 'old school' for a Galaxy, and they're slightly curved rather than properly following the shape of the floor, as you can see on the screenshot.

Also, as can be seen on the second render, I've started experimenting with the carpet shape, following what little was seen on screen. However, the colors look rather awful with the lilac fabric of the chairs. :/ So I'm open to disregarding the two shots where the floor was seen here. :p

Excellent work on the Odyssey as expected. Are you planning on doing any other missing bridges like the Lantree, Brattain, Enterprise-D variants, Defiant variants, that were sadly missing from the original Star Trek Fact Files/Magazine? Sorry if this has been asked before.

@CaptainSerek: Thank you! No problem with you asking at all! I'd love to work on pretty much all of those bridges you mentioned. However the reason why I'm doing the Odyssey right now is because I'm being commissioned to do so. If someone commissions me to do those bridges, I would love to work on those as well. :D It's really rewarding to try and notice all the little details and try to build a whole picture out of just a few shots.

In the end, we've settled on a brown and blueish purple carpet. I've also added further details along the steps, and did a custom design for the door signage.

Had a couple of days with no electricity here after a pretty massive storm, but I'm back in action now!

I thought the aft consoles didn't have chairs, but I was proven wrong. Hence I've added the same chair style that was used on Worf's console for Generations.

Meanwhile, I've added some more details to the viewscreen.

Y'know, I never realized it much when I was watching the show - and not a shot on your work whatsoever, Rekkert (on the contrary, it's beautiful), but all these sets were so...flippin'...BEIGE! I mean, seriously, those sets and set dressings were boring, colorless, bland and completely uninteresting to look at. The only colors were really in the uniforms and carpets. I suppose that's why I liked the E-E's interior design in First Contact. There was color! Even if it was Borg green, there was color!

Come to think of it, almost every TNG bridge that I can recall was the same boring beige, like Starfleet was afraid of its crew being overstimulated or something. I suspect the design aesthetics of the late 80's/early 90's were trying to get as far away from pastel color palettes of the times as much as possible and they totally went to the opposite end of the spectrum on that one. The accuracy of your models really brings that out, Rekkert. Again, not your fault. Your models are just that accurate...maybe TOO accurate!

@Lt. Washburn: Ohhh, I didn't know that! I was able to Google them now, and got accurate measurements. Thanks! :)

@cardinal biggles: No, it was a reuse of the Enterprise-B chairs. I think they all were, but for Worf's they thought no one would see it clearly so there was no point in changing the seat.

@137th Gebirg: Hahaha, yeah, the boring beige invasion! I like the aesthetic but some color doesn't hurt, hence why I prefer alternate versions of the Enterprise bridge such as the Parallels one or the Future Imperfect one to the 'true' bridge. The added red stripes and LCARS make the bridge seem more alive. Overall, just like you I prefer either the Ent-E aesthetic or the TMP era one, with lots of color accents.

Like I mentioned, I was able to get accurate measurements for the chairs, so I've adjusted them accordingly. I've also added the three separate consoles on the tactical arc.

@cardinal biggles: I keep learning facts about those chairs today! ;)

I've worked on the front side walls, reproducing the lilac padding and the floor lights, and adding side screens. The idea here is that the main viewscreen can be kept with an outside view while communication with other ships happens via the side walls, hence explaining why the bridge was seen from the side while communicating with the runabouts.

That works, plus it's another thing to break up the Walls of Beige and distinguish this from yet another Bridge of the Week.

I never noticed that!

The viewscreen area will probably be reworked, but for now, I'm focusing on the back end of the bridge. Also I've had a week now with the electricity going out sporadically, so work has been slow. It's all fixed now so I hope to finish soonish.

I've added some paneling and vertical LCARS to the aft walls. These were definitely not there on the set, but we never saw these walls on the Odyssey, and they aren't a stretch as they're pretty standard DS9 production paneling.

So are those rear doorways going to go anywhere? I'm assuming the Odyssey had an Observation Lounge just like the Enterprise did.

@cardinal biggles: Indeed they go somewhere. ;) There's a Lounge at the back as on the Enterprise, and a side door that connects to the ready room.

Are you going to model those as well? :D

I think lilac-puce would work better

Loving this thread!

I had the opportunity to walk through an early version of Stage 9 about a year and a half ago and it was amazing. I'm trying to get my buddy with the VR gear to host another VR session so I can take a look at the newest release.

@Jedman67: Haha, I won't be modeling any other rooms for the Odyssey right away, but other ones will be on the way soonish. :)

@Savage Dragon: Thank you! I'm glad you're loving Stage9, we hope to release v10 VR soonish (there's that word again ).

To avoid having the side wall completely empty, I've added some handrails echoing the ones on the Enterprise-D corridors.
