3D interiors in Blender

@ashefivekay: Oh indeed, the symbol will be there! :D

I've finally added legs to the regular biobeds, as well as added more details to that area, and started with the ceiling, which is really hard to get good references for.

Do you mean the circular structure, or the entire ceiling? As I'm sure you're aware, there was no permanent ceiling. It was open to the stage lights, except when a shot called for a scrim to cover it.

@Lt. Washburn I meant the entire ceiling. Indeed, they covered it to look like one big lighting surface (pretty similar to what is now there on my mesh), but on some episodes the borders are different or have more details than in others, that's my main issue right now.

Probably the biggest difference between the Galaxy and the TNG sickbays is the inclusion of a nurse station (similar to the one seen in TWoK). However given how much smaller the area is here, I'm having trouble finding a good spot for it. One option is to remove one of the biobeds and put it there. This was actually done in a TNG episode where they needed to have a console on the set, see here and here. Here are some renders of the different options:

In other news, I've finished the season 7 version of the Enterprise-D bridge. As always, more renders are displayed in my portfolio.

Guess that is why they modified the sickbay set for Voyager, without having a bed in the middle of the room it allowed them to add a console and move it around wherever, and the addition of buttons everywhere allowed them to push more buttons in more locations.

I would say put it in the place of the bed nearest to the corridor door, from a functionality standpoint people could check-in there as they entered sickbay, from a filming standpoint it is not that far out of the way from the bed to get good framing.
Or if you are not going to put the big wall display there, you could put the console there, with a smaller wall display.

Oh, put the beds on a rail that runs along the wall. When someone comes in, a new bed drops into place near the door and the others move back. BTW, how come Star Trek medical beds don't have privacy blinds or something?

I always thought it was odd that in TNG/VOY, the examination, and operating, table, are basically in the middle of the ward!
TMP & TWOK had a seperate examination room, where that sort of thing could be done in private.

Also those beds in sickbay don't seem to offer any sort of protection (raised sides, bars, etc..) to stop the patients from falling out, and considering how much those ships got knocked about, you'd think that would be quite a concern!

I completely agree with all of what you're saying about how bad of a proper sickbay the set was.

This is one of the areas where the behind the scenes info really makes up for it, there was a whole hospital section planned for TNG, which of course was never realized due to budgetary reasons. The official blueprints lists this whole area, where what we know as sickbay is only one of many rooms, and other, more private areas are available for triage, critical care, operations, etc. Even though the existence of all of that clashes with the fact that we never saw any of that on the show, I believe that for a ship of 1000, those rooms had to exist.

In the end, @Rusty0918 chose to replace one of the biobeds with the console. I believe this is the best alternative for such a small set. And again, plenty of biobeds available in all the other rooms. ;)

I started with the detailing for the sensor cluster (I had no idea it was called that way until this week) above the main biobed, as well as on the two columns on the side walls.

I really like that schematic of sickbay, and the idea that there is so much more than we can see (ie. afford to show).

Thanks for sharing that.

@Scribble: Thank you! :)

@TOMFAN: No problem, indeed it's a really cool schematic. :)

I've worked on the, uh, random vases that are just there on the corner. I had a lot of fun experimenting to get the materials to look like I wanted them to.

I still have to add some further details to the stand though.

@Lt. Washburn: Thanks! Nah, I just painted the sides with a different materials as the props were.

I always thought they were color coded for different types of disposables, just like real trash cans in hospitals. We see characters dropping things into theses vases from time to time after all, were they really supposed to be liquid?

The wall mounted panel above the vases is now almost done. I hope to finish the whole area by tomorrow.

Thanks guys, been trying to. :)

I've added the screen on the ICU area, as well as some weapon lockers in areas I thought would make sense (including hidden behind the nurse console, for emergency access) and a small table between the two doors as on the Enterprise.
