3D interiors in Blender

Thank you both!

I've started working on the Buenos Aires bridge, but for now I'm just trying stuff out seeing what sticks. I want this bridge to be darker and have more metal, less wood and soft materials.

I've also started tinkering in Unreal Engine, seeing if I can get my models there without too much of a problem and start adding animations to them. I also have some more projects going on, both on commissions and with Stage9, so I'll probably jump from project to project for a while.

Again, nothing here's final, just seeing what I can do.

I definitely like it with the fewer side stations. What you've got going on with the tactical station looks great. It definitely doesn't feel as warm as the TNG bridge with that color scheme and that's definitely what you were going for. I'd love to see more detailing on those lcars walls you put in to remove the stations but what you've got so far looks stellar!

@Rekkert , I like the color change. It's an interesting variation on the D bridge. My only concern is all the crew twisting ankles going to and from the side stations. You need a little more room on the sides, plus some railing. It's an OSHA citation waiting to happen. (Does look cool raised up like that, though.)

Wellp, the Buenos Aires will have to wait, as last week I was commissioned a new bridge from a member of SciFi-Meshes. The bridge is for the Nebula-Class USS Quasar, and will follow the same basic structure as the Enterprise-D bridge, but with several custom details and incorporating some details from the 'Parallels' and 'Future Imperfect' bridges. This is the first time I'll be recreating a canon bridge.

I've kept the updates mostly on SFM as that's where the commissioner was, but I think I should keep you guys up to date as well, so here's what I've got so far after a week of work. I have to point out, the wood texture on the horseshoe is temporary.

Absolutely everything has been done from scratch for this bridge, in order to have the highest level of accuracy possible.

One of these days the Galaxy-Class bridge ceiling will make sense to me. :shifty:

I like your work so far. How long has it taken you to get to this point?

Going back to the Buenos Aires bridge, the inform color of the carpet is kinda confusing. I'm sure, in reality, actually being on the bridge you would be able to see the subtle contours of where the ramp begins and ends, but in your render it looks like it would be easy to miss it and either trip up the ramp or misstep and fall down.

I would like to see some sort of outlining to the contours of the floor or carpet borders.

@ashefivekay: Thanks! :)

@Scribble: As for the Buenos Aires, oh yes I agree with what you say, the floor was still in progress, and would eventually use two colors as the Enterprise-D bridge.

I've worked on the chairs today (yes, they're the season 1 ones). They're the hardest parts to model in my view. Thoughts?

Oh god yes, chairs suck. You did a great job with them though. I really did like the flip open consoles on Picard's chair.

@ashefivekay: Thanks! I do like that command chair as well, though it's not as iconic as the latter model.

I think I'm done with the central command area. The chairs were further modified and I've added their support arms.

I've also added the small command consoles at either side. They're the first season 1 version, so there are no additional seats there for pesky acting ensigns to sit on.

You mean you're not going with the 'VIP Lounge Nightclub' version of the command area? Awwww.. ;)

In all seriousness though, that looks fantastic.

@ashefivekay: My commissioner says that this is supposed to be a more 'full time work' kind of ship, no diplomatic missions or anything like that, so no cocktails on the bridge :rommie:

I've worked on the central tactical console today (it's the Parallels version). Now I have to finish the UV mapping of that damn horseshoe...

While I like your modeling on the chairs, it would seem that you'd need a pretty skinny rump to fit in them.

@Scribble: I used the measurements from the captain's chair used in 'The Experience'. Yeah it's pretty tight back there haha, but you can see in the series that that's the way it was, people always sat funny on that chair, and the back plate is pretty small as well, you can always see that whoever is sitting there has the shoulders positioned outside the main body of the chair. I bet it was pretty uncomfortable, maybe that's why it was changed.

I've worked on the carpet (not done but it's progress), as well as on the viewscreen and the Conn/Ops consoles. The big red labels on said consoles are like those in 'Future Imperfect'. For now they're just bigger copies of the small labels, but once I start with the textures I'll replace the text displayed with something more accurate to the episode version.

I've also modified the isolinear racks on the side, to make them more prominent and less rounded.

I wasn't completely happy with the chairs, so I decided to keep working on them. The padding was a bit too flat and uniform rather than looking like a leathery fabric. So I've experimented with Blender's sculpting tools a bit to add some irregularities and make them puffier. It's a small difference but I think it looks better this way. You can compare for yourself with the last update as it's the exact same shot with only the chairs being different.

Funny thing about the captain's chair in TNG: beginning with the second season, it was made just for Patrick Stewart. They went so far as to cast his butt to mold the seat, so he would be most comfortable in it.
