Spoilers 31st/32nd Century Ships Revealed

...Indeed, it almost looked as if the text were in the nonsense lettering Book prefers!

That’s what it looked like to me too.

Hmh? Not really. The ships are said to be "old as dirt", is all. Sure, Burnham speaks of there being ship graveyards like this "caused by the Burn", but in this case it's more likely that a few modern ships visiting a salvage yard of ancíent ones went kaboom in the middle of the merchandise.

Maybe. But the problem with how the scene is structured is that 99% of the ships in that salvage yard are from the era that Burnham (and even Georgiou) belong to. Yet neither one acknowledges this. Again, it’s almost as if there’s a disconnect between the scriptwriters and the VFX personnel. Either that, or it’s being implied that 900-year-old ships were still in use up to the Burn, which I don’t think was the intent of the writers. I like your theory that those old ships were already salvaged when the Burn happened, but I also don’t think that was the writers’ intent.

After all, the point here is that the ancient ships did NOT go kaboom. They are all intact, which as far as we have been told is the antithesis of "active", come Burn.

Unless older ships did not get destroyed in exactly the same way as the newer ships did.

Georgiou does immediately start pestering Tolor with requests for 900-year-old items, FWIW. Might well be the planet specializes in those, and advertises, and anybody going there knows this by default.

When our two heroines arrive, Georgiou does indicate ignorance. But Burnham does not, not directly and explicitly anyway. She might have read the brochure, and the Emperor is always quick on the pickup, so we really don't need their commentary here.

Quite possible. Then again, many of the Hiawatha-type ones seem not-destroyed-at-all... So the competing assumption that they stopped working for some unrelated reason (and thus possibly at some other time) is rather attractive.

Yeah. I find it a coincidence of galactic proportions that the salvage yard where Book gets captured just happens to be filled with 900 year old ships rather than 140 year old ships...

Especially since Book went specifically hunting for leftovers from a 32nd century starship, not a 23rd century one!

But there might be Reasons. The recorder supposedly originally came up on a generic Bajoran Exchange, the trail then led to Hunhau. To really reach, perhaps the Orions were aware that Book had been peddling 23rd century hardware earlier on, and thought he might be of use on this specific type of scrap yard, and thus arranged for him to get caught there?

Besides USS Yelchin, can anyone make out the name of the ships?
Sounds like the Yelchin (RIP Anton) is the NCC-4774xx ship.

USS Yelchin NCC-4774...
USS Govnor?
USS Geocony? EDIT: identified as USS Giaconi NCC-316608

Looking at the NCC numbers It seems to me that Starfleet has done very little in the way of construction since The Burn.. or is it maybe that they're just using the older ships to maintain the Cloak for Starfleet HQ while the front line ships are out and about?

Example
NCC Giaconi NCC316608 Destroyed during The Burn. AKA Black Box #3
NCC Armstrong NCC317659 Hanging out at StarFleet HQ doing it's best impression of a pimped out Future-Connie.

Sounded like Gothnor to me.. Maybe Klingon or Tellarite name??

The Constitution-lookalikes appear really primitive compared to the rest - fixed nacelles, round saucers and so forth. It's rather surprising that the Armstrong would be in the same registry range as any of the future ships. The next step up, the vertical all-solid design exemplified by the Nog, might also be really old, and ships just last longer in the future. I'm all for Starfleet not building all that many of them, then. And a hundred thousand extra ones, to get to the Yelchin, could nicely cover several centuries in that case.

Yeah, I think construction of new ships would utterly cease with the Burn. Why make ships if you can't make them move?

Unless the USS Yelchin is a NCC-4774X-E instead of a NCC-4774XX.. Maybe named after a famous Late Excelsior Class Batch from the 2320s Anyone have a really nice screen cap of that?? *Look at how I muddy the waters!*

Aha! Well then.. Here's what I have as a master list thus far..

A ship summary - great idea!
Btw, it's Eisenberg class, after the late actor.

Sorting by registry numbers we get:

3. USS Reliant (NCC-1864-M, new Constitution), active (3189)
4. USS Yelchin (NCC-4774…-…, Black Box #1), destroyed (3069)
5. USS Voyager (NCC-74656-J, Intrepid class), active (3189)

Also losing member worlds meant losing shipyards and other resources. Also starfleet may have lost a ton of shipyards from the burn itself.

I'm assuming that the USS. Yelshin is name after Anton Yelchin. So it registry is probably NCC-477489. 89 will be the year Anton Yelchin was born.

From a production point of view they just needed ships to crash and go boom. It doesn't really make sense to create whole new assets to represent a time may be 50 - 100 years before the burn from scratch just for them to be in the background and then crashed into a building and never shown again.
