24: Live Another Day. Discussion Thread. (Spoilers)

I would hearby like to nominate the Defenestration of Margot Al-Harazi as the All Time Number One Jack Bauer moment, even topping his last scene with Nina Meyers. :D

That was an absolutely incredible opening half of an episode. I love this show. It's going to really suck when it ends again.

Extremely exciting episode, I'm thinking that Jack's finishing move on Margot is one of the best Renegade interrupts (That one's for the Mass Effect fans) of all time.

That was a big "holy shit!" moment for me too. I thought since it was a shortened season that Margot would get away and we'd have her as the primary villain for the rest of the season. Of course now I know I'm wrong.

I really hope this isn't the last season. Even if we continue with Kate and not Jack I'd be eager for more. I know Jack is the star, but I love the format too and think it could be sustained with another lead character.

Margot: "I've got nothing else to say to you."

Jack: *Shoves her out the window* "How about 'Goodbye.'"

One of Jacks best Kills

"Jack I need to use the stairs!"

"Dammit Margot there's no time! (flings her out window)"

There's no way to know for sure, but there were rumors that James Badge Dale (season 3) and Ricky Shroeder (season 6) were tests to see if the show could work without Jack, and they decided against it. Even though there was one episode in season 7 where someone other than Jack (spoiler-free for your benefit) carried the heavy load and it worked out okay.

^ I've heard that too, I also think those characters were put into play as red herrings. The "Oh, no! Jack could die and (insert name here) would be his replacement!" effect.

I'd like to note that it's the second time someone throws Michelle Fairley character's son out of the window and the second time her character's son is killed in front of her, before she is killed.

I hope she doesn't turn into TV Sean Bean.

Always being thrown out of windows would be a very special niche.

Throwing people out of windows is the Jack Bauer version of Horatio Caine putting on his sunglasses.

"Mind if I..."

(throws someone out of window)

"...give you a lift?"

YEEEEEEEEEAAAAAAAAHHHHHH!!!!

Jack Bauer makes deals with terrorists than breaks them risking the lives of thousands.
Jack Bauer throws defenseless women through windows.
Jack Bauer is wrong for America.
America cannot afford more Jack Bauer.

Paid for by Terrorists for a Softer America

Oh, I got another one:

"It's my Blue Screen..."

(throws someone out of window)

"...of DEATH."

YEEEEEEEEEAAAAAAAAHHHHHH!!!!

I love that Bauer has evolved over time. In the earlier seasons, he grappled with the morality of certain situations, until he slowly devolved (or evolved) into this "fuck it" attitude where he simply gets the job done, law and morality be damned. That's another reason why I think Kate is an interesting character and a possible replacement - she still has reservations about some of what Jack does, though she's starting to see the benefit of it.

And in addition to the Margot kill, I thought that there was another awesome kill in this episode, when they were in the shootout with Margot's men and he shoots a man from above on one of the storage containers. It had the attitude of "we're not doing this cat and mouse shit anymore, let's get this over with."

It's definitely interesting watching the early season at the same time I'm watching the current season, since Jack is a totally different character. Although now that I'm getting up there in Seasons, Jack is starting to turn into the broken character we see in 'Live Another Day.'

Jack got a few achievements to pop this last episode:

Achievement Unlocked: His Pattern Indicates Two-dimensional Thinking 25G

Kill a determined opponent from an elevated position.

Achievement Unlocked: Your Son Couldn't Fly - Can You? 100G

Defenestrate Ian and Margot Al-Harazi, in that order, while saying something appropriately badass.
