2023/2024 comic releases

Collects Star Trek 2023 Free Comic Book Day issue

So this one can include the FCBD issue (as it should, not arguing against that), but they had a collection specifically about Picard, and couldn’t give us that comic from that one Picard-themed blu-ray set? Still waiting for that to show up somewhere. (Although I’m sensing it never will… :( )

I have that one and the copy that came with the set is the size of a bluray box, so much smaller than a regular comic and it had Picard doing some really out of character things that I'm surprised made it past IP approval. I'd love to see a larger version of the book in a collection, especially because it's such a short story, only 16 pages.

Not 100% sold on the design of the Artemis, again its the art style. I'd probably love the same design done via the art style of the core Trek title, but not here

What's the general opinion been on the current no subtitle Star Trek comic and Defiant? The casts for both series sound cool, but the big crossover storyline sounds kind of weird. From the descriptions it sounds like they turned the Kahless clone into some kind of a genocidal maniac, which seems kind of out of character to me, since the episode that introduced him and the tie-appearances I've read seem to portray him as a more spiritual and philosophical character.

I don't think either series ever explained why the gods couldn't defeat Kahless on their own. Why did the less powerful Sisko and crew have to do it? And if the Shapers of Sarkadesh had a weapon that could kill a god, why couldn't they defend their planet against Kahless who threatened to destroy Sarkadesh if they didn't give him the weapon?

The main mystery and plot of the series has diminishing returns, but the cast is really fun, and the really good parts of it are mostly them talking to one another, or just sitting around a table, etc...I've got some hope for the arc they're running now with the Tzenkethi but we'll see. The art's been alright to good but honestly as long as they keep J.K. Woodward away from anything but covers I've got no complaints. I just really find his style off-putting.

The most beloved and iconic LGBTQIA+ characters from the Star Trek universe are getting a special all their own. The Star Trek franchise is home to some of the most compelling LGBTQIA+ characters in pop culture, including Mister Sulu, Doctor Culber and Beckett Mariner. Now, ScreenRant is excited to announce Star Trek: Celebrations, a forthcoming one-shot featuring stories by today’s top talents intended to shine a light on the franchise’s “badass” LGBTQIA+ heroes.

Speaking exclusively to ScreenRant, IDW and Star Trek group editor Heather Antos reveals more information about Celebrations, set to arrive on May 29 ahead of Pride Month, June 2024. The book will feature stories by Vita Ayala, Mags Visaggio, and Steve Orlando, among others. The book ships with a Paulina Ganucheau cover, included below, showing the franchise’s LGBTQIA+ characters, such as Seven of Nine and Paul Stamets. Antos explains that Star Trek: Celebrations is grounded in Trek creator Gene Roddenberry’s original vision of a future in which diversity is celebrated--hence the title.

Galactic war is imminent in the penultimate issue of arc three of the Eisner-nominated Star Trek series. With Federation, Romulan, and Cardassian forces all vying for leverage over the Tzenkethi war fleet, Captain Sisko is left with no choice but to request official assistance from Starfleet after he and his crew have fallen out of favor with the warmongering reptilian species.
