2020 X Box Series X Vs. Playstation 5 thread.

Parity? Hey, I run at 1440p and 144hz. No PS5 is keeping up with that.

Sure, but it's still come much closer to what's available as PC settings. 1440p is not as common in terms of mainstream setups. For the first time, consoles are running at native resolutions rather than upscaling, hence why people are noticing why the images are much sharper.

They both bungled this launch pretty badly. 6,000 Series X are on EBay just sitting there. Another 12,000 PS5’s.

I actually don't blame them for supply chain constrictions during a global pandemic, but I do blame them for not delaying the launch(es)

it's a terrible customer experience for both Sony and Microsoft users

So does anyone know of anywhere off the beaten path to buy a Series X without the ridiculous markup?

I've been checking Best Buy, Target and Walmart's sites randomly (no where near as frantically as I was for the PS5), and they're pretty consistently sold out. I am noticing the prices on the Facebook Marketplace are coming down, though. A couple are for sale nearby for $700-ish. So hopefully with the holidays gone, Xboxes will start to become more commonplace (I'm really itching to play Forza Horizon 4 and Quantum Break on a Series X :D )

Edit: Just for shits and giggles, I know everybody gives Gamestop shit for giving bottom dollar rates for trade-ins, so I just looked to see what they were offering. If you trade a PS5 with a disc drive, you get $300 store credit or $240 cash

Found an Xbox Series S for $404.94. Comes with a second controller and a three-month Game Pass subscription. The sticker is that I will have to buy a memory upgrade to expand the storage as it only has 500GB internally.

PS5 still not widely available here and if it is it's being sold out in minutes. I guess it'll be another month or two until stocks remain for a while.

I'm still not sure if i will get a PS5. I have recently made a complete upgrade to my PC, i.e. bought a new one including a ultrawide WHQ monitor which the PS5 currently does not support for whatever reason and i "only" have a standard HD TV in my living room which would hold back the PS5.

Since i'm in no rush i'll probably wait until Sony patches in monitor support (if ever) before seriously thinking about buying one.

The PS5 will likely be a Christmas gift for my youngest son come December. He just built a PC, so there is no rush on my end even though he does want a PS5.

Xbox Series S and the 1TB SSD arrived today. Pretty slick. Load times on Skyrim are practically non-existent. It took twenty seconds from clicking on the icon to being in the game playing.

The SSD is the size of a PlayStation 2 memory card.

When I saw the price tag of NVMe drives for the Xbox Sex, that was when I threw in the towel and decided that when I do eventually upgrade (I still rock a 720p plasma TV from 2007 and a launch-era PS4), I'll stick with the PS5. Sweet Jesus.

I spent a touch over $600 stimulating the economy. I'm really liking it so far. :techman:

As a member of the PC master race ( :D ) i'm curious to know how much a 1 TB drive costs. Is this like PC internal slot cards for NVMe storage or an external device in a hardcase?

The second...
As @BillJ said, it looks like a PS2/gamecube memory card and costs around €250...
The PS5 will accept PC M.2 drives, the price for 1 TB depends on speed...
But Sony is still testing which ones will work best with the PS5, so that slot is still de-activated...
IIRC both systems can use external drives through USB, just like the previous gen...

Nice! The load times for this gen are my second favorite thing so far (after graphics). Going from nearly two minutes to fire up Assassin's Creed Valhalla on a PS4 Pro to maybe 20 seconds on PS5 is amazing. Almost makes you feel like you're playing a game from a cartridge again

I also love the fact we get memory card-size SSD expansions that plug into the system instead of bulky boxes that are connected via USB cord

Maybe someone can explain this to me, since I'm finding it confusing as all get out.

So we have two Xbox's (Xbox Series S, Xbox One S) in our home now, but can still only play one at a time, even with two different gamertags trying to play two different games. If one person is on, and another tries to play a game on the other, the first person gets kicked out.

Any clues? I can find info on sharing for online purposes of playing the same game, but my Google-Fu is failing me on the question I have.

Two different gamer tags/profiles?

WTF - They shouldn't have any effect on each other.
