2020 X Box Series X Vs. Playstation 5 thread.

Nothing so far has made me want to spend $500+ on a new console.

Ditto.

I have the One hooked up to my living room television and have come to rely on starting up and logging in using the Kinect. Also the receiver is pre-HDMI, so I still rely on a digital optical connection. I'm in no rush to lose these features. Also, money is a little tight right now.

Some of the media people are starting to get their hands on PS5s, and apparently it's huge. Some people are actually having trouble fitting it in their entertainment centers. It might even possibly be the biggest video game system ever.

They are both pretty hefty, but are they heavier or bigger than the OG PS3 or XBox?!?

Well Sony droppping vr was something i was not expecting, that came right out of left field, and i just applied for the PSVR adapter for the PS5 just a day ago and now Sony are done with VR as no native vr support or games on the PS5, only VR via BC, so no point on spending £500 on a PS5 when it will do the same vr wise as my present Pro does for £0. Lol
Shame as i had all the PS5 powering making vr games look amazing,

Yeah I own a PS4 with VR. This has just made me delay my purchase of the PS5 even further now. I'll probably even wait til GTA6. I love my headset and get a lot of use out of, both games and the excellent theatre mode.

it's not a surprise that they dropped VR support for PS5, it wasn't doing mainstream numbers with a significant sales tail as to attract dev opportunities, which is what SCE wants and needs

No me neither, it's a shame because for the money it's an excellent system and the immersion in the games is amazing. At least I'll still be able to play PS4 VR games on it and continue to watch films in 3D. I'll take that.

I've persuaded myself  that I'm going to try and pick up a PS5 over Christmas period! Maybe during Boxing Day Sales etc.

First job though is to secure a nice 4K TV over Black Friday season sales. Anyone here got a 4K TV? I'm not bothered about the high end 4K 120Hz ones so will be a 4K 60Hz (lot of Console games don't do 120 anyway and if they do not consistent). Already seen some low as £350-400.

Also looking at 43 inch (could be tempted to 50 for right price).

anyone interested in a comparison of the differing philosophies/ideologies of these platforms this is a good place to start

I have two. A 65" in the living room and a 40" in the bedroom (both HDR). Both Samsung. The 65" is awesome, the 40" a disappointment. It developed a couple of dark spots right after the warranty expired.

I'm still rocking a 42 inch Phillips LCD, 14 years old and hasn't missed a beat, it's even survived water pouring down from a leaking toilet in the floor above which was enough to shut it down. 10 minutes with a hairdryer and it fired straight back up. It's not even 1080p it's that old. It simply refuses to die. Blu rays still look decent enough on it, but I'm waiting for it to expire before getting a 4k set. I owe it that much.

They definitely don't make them like they used to. I've been through multiple flat panel displays since jumping in, in 2007. Some were replaced for increased size, but most just died. Though I do have a Magnavox Profile 1.0 (it is that old) Blu-ray player that I bought in 2009 for $128 that is still going strong, though is slow as molasses.

I’m planning on getting PS5 eventually just cause a lot of my favorite genres are Japanese and any games I want in XBox will either also be on PS5 or PC.

I’ve got the games, the headset, the hdmi switch but no console. Stupid UK release date.

All I have to say is, good luck! The release of both the Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5 was a total shit show. Walmart's site crashed and you can't find them anywhere (unless you're willing to pay scalpers 3x the price  )

I’ve got it pre ordered and they said they have it. They just cant ship until the 19th. I’ve already got the Series X which Funnily enough, is the other round. I’ve got the console but no games. :)

Just play some older games, test out the backwards compatibility...
