to say nothing of the rumor that TPTB have an eye towards launching a Pike's-Enterprise spin-off series running parallel to Discovery in a year or two
ANOTHER prequel TOS-era show? :brickwall: At least make it TWOK-era or something.
And now that the 24th century novels seem to have ground to a halt, there's nothing to keep the story going, post-Nemesis.

I'm eagerly awaiting the next wave of Star Trek novels, which can only reference select episodes of Voyager and season two of TOS, and have covers featuring Best of Trek-style Enterprises:p

I loved the ship designs on the Best of Trek books. Volume 8 was a particular favorite. :)

Is this actually a thing, or just wishful thinking and/or speculation? As a rule, it's best not to to take crazy rumors on the internet seriously.

Yeah, it doesn't take long to get from "Gee, wouldn't it be cool if they did X" to "Hey, I heard they're doing X!"

And then there's the ever-popular process whereby a reporter asks a creator "Do you think you might ever do X?", the creator says "It's hypothetically not entirely impossible," and the Internet explodes with "CREATOR IS DEFINITELY GOING TO DO X" headlines.

So, about that Khan TV show by Nicholas Meyer...? :D

Remember when the internet was convinced that Batman v. Superman was going to reveal that Wonder Woman was actually Kryptonian? As I understand it, that all started with a random fan speculating wildly on his blog, but within twenty-fours it was being reported as "news," fandom was in an uproar ("Damn you, Warner Bros.!"), and even mainstream media sites were reporting on the "rumor," thereby giving it even more validity. ("But it's being reported everywhere!") And, of course, it turned out to be total bullshit.

The internet has a bad habit of blurring the distinction between speculation, rumor, and news, sometimes with terrifying speed.

Heck, I still run into people who think DISCO is an anthology series because they read something on the internet a few years ago or heard it from a friend of a friend . . ..

A little of column A, a little of column B. Here's where I heard it (well, he's mentioned it a few times, but this has the most detail), but PixelMagic was pretty on-the-money about the Enterprise showing up and how it would look, and it makes a certain amount of sense (and helps make the Enterprise showing up at the last second for no reason other than to commit the show to doing something it, apparently, had no concrete idea how to do yet make more sense).

^^And as that particular poster was reporting the Enterprise would be in Disco's finale several months in advance, I'm inclined not to dismiss him out of hand.

I dunno... That's how they usually did cliffhangers on TNG. They'd write the season finale cliffhangers and then figure out how to resolve them later, over the summer hiatus.

"Wait, we turned Picard into a Borg? How the hell do we write ourselves out of that one?"

The rumor was that they weren't sure Patrick Stewart would be returning for season 4, though I forget whether there was ever any truth to that.

Not that I recall, though it was great publicity for the upcoming season premiere. ISTR Michael Piller had written it as a fairly insoluble problem because he was planning to leave and knew he wouldn't have to write the solution that would restore Picard! But that plan didn't work so well...

^The interesting thing about "The Best of Both Worlds" is that Riker's arc through the story is basically Michael Piller working through his own issues about whether to leave TNG. And Piller and Riker both arrived at the same decision, that staying where they were happy was more important than advancing their careers.

I can't remember for sure if it was one of the Treks, or something else, but I read an interview where a TV shows writer admitted the that they would purposefully write the craziest cliffhangers they could come up with as a challenge for whoever had to write the season premiere. They really hated it when they had to write the next season's premiere, because then they had to come up with the solution.

Sometimes that worked well; sometimes not. Descent, for instance, had a really underwhelming part 2.
