Spoilers 2017 Christmas Special Title and Trailer

To be honest, I never noticed it until it was pointed out to me sometime in the past year. And as someone who never gets too emotionally invested in stuff on TV or movies, that scene somehow made me choke up. In fact, it's because of that scene that I even understand what the term "choke up" actually means.

If there was CGI involved, I would've guessed maybe they shook hands at the end, and we got really, really seriously realistic appearances by all the others.

William Russell finally appears and they're at Ian's deathbed?

I don't think that's what's actually going to happen. I'm just spit balling here.

The problem with most things you can think of is that they'd be in the script so wouldn't come as a surprise to the actors.

So smuggling some previous cast members in seems like the only really logical option but who and in what context is the question.

Unlikely but not unheard of. There have been cases (not necessarily with Doctor Who) where pages have been deliberately omitted from scripts in order to keep news from leaking out. If it's a small set, then the number of people who will know will be limited.

It just seems unlikely that Moffat wouldn't tick off all of Capaldi's fan wishes. He wanted to have Susan back just as much as the Mondasian Cybermen.

In every case, I'd love to see it. The fact she never ever had a proper reunion story with any of the Doctors, bar The Five Doctors, is criminal to me. Like how Ian was never called in NuWho (and likely never will).

Honestly, I'm content with Big Finish's An Unearthly Child (and the following stories in the Lucie Miller range) for Susan's reunion. I'm more bummed out that Ian and the Brigadier never appeared in the new series. Still a small hope for Ian, but I'm doubtful.

I was hoping Ian would at least be mentioned back in The Caretaker. I even thought up the dialogue for such a reference:
Doctor: "I'm going to have a word with Mr. Chatterton."
Clara: "Don't you mean Mr. Chesterton?"
Doctor: "I know what I said."
Hell, the episode did reference Barbara, though the way they did it felt kind of forced. This would have worked too, perhaps even better.

An Earthly Child.

And I doubt Moffat will go out of his way to discount that. In fact, I'd say he'd be doing it in order to not discount that, just like he handled the origin of the Mondasian Cybermen.

Godsdamnit, I could've sworn I specifically typed An Earthly Child. :scream:

You're probably right, but I'm still content with just those audio plays for Susan.

It sounds like Capaldi and Bradley are performing the scene as scripted but the events going on around them were not as expected. So, the scripted lines were, well, scripted just the background (people? person?) were not expected. Don't know. But, it sounds like the scripted lines weren't changed and weren't unexpected, at least based on what's reported.

I hope Susan returns but geez if it's for one scene that doesn't change their dialog, it hardly seems worth it.

Same here, but I wouldn't mind seeing Carole Ann Ford one last time on the telly. I don't mean to sound grave or anything, but she is not getting any younger and all that...

I saw it emerged today that Twelve and One will have a bit of an argument over pervasive chauvanism - remind me again what that in in the last fucking episode was, about the Timey's having evolved beyond such things ages ago... (Also, this sort of lecturing is why I wouldn't have trusted Moffat to showrun a female Doctor as the Doctor rather than as the Female Doctor)
