I missed that bit of fine print. Glad I've been stingy with showing off my work!

Yes, I can't see them necessarily picking a winner and then asking for the composition to be changed drastically - that would be kind of pointless. I think they need to expect that fan submissions might not be quite as polished - or the artist may not have quite as extensive resources as a professional would - and certain allowances may be made that they wouldn't do for professional, commissioned works. That's not to say the fan submissions won't include works that are every bit as good as anything we've seen published in the past - I know I've seen several works right here that surpass most of the pieces I've seen in the calendars.

As for prior publication, I think that refers to actual publication, as in another calendar, a book, accompanying an article online - somewhere the artist was compensated for its use. I don't think that includes something like posting it on your own website or gallery, or in a thread here or another fan site. Of course, I wouldn't recommend posting the full-size image, regardless, but maybe a reduced-resolution, scaled-down image that conveys the concept without providing the full quality of the final calendar print - something where they wouldn't lose money on the calendar because the pristine images were available online already.

I did too when I posted a WIP in a FB Trek Art group and was commented on that it was in the rules, I went back and reread them and sure enough it was there. Ripped that WIP down in an instant.

No the person who commented on my WIP on FB was someone who has had work in the SOTL calendars in the past and he gently urged me to remove it.

Yeah, I've started following the film festival approach, in that the premier is inherently much more valuable, but it's a catch 22 if you thrive on feedback, as I do. No question my entry would have been stronger if I could have shared it with all of you (and my homies on spacebattles.com) while in progress. Still, I look forward to getting your feedback eventually.

Remember, it took them an extra month to announce the winners of DtNE. Still... check your spam box.

Good or ill I will shout from the virtual rooftops when I hear. I expect others to do the same.

(Why no, I haven't heard anything. You?)

Well, one month later. Do they have to announce that they've told anyone they've won?

I had someone ask Ben from the Star Trek Starships collection at DSTL this weekend (He was on the panel at SDCC when it was announced) and he simply said check Startrek.com. So it would appear the hold up is on their end....aaaand I know nothing about who runs it or how to contact them and their comment system is just broken.

Probably no one knows who runs it exactly. Really no way to treat this...
