The Cubs signed Joe Nathan, because the bullpen isn't enough of a tire fire already.

Didn't they call up Carl Edwards Jr. recently? I saw it in a yahoo story, but nowhere else.

Aside from some recent games, the bullpen hasn't been that bad. Plus, at this point, they need to shrink the bullpen and get another bat.

I don't follow baseball, but why is the bat flip such a big deal? From what I saw he just looked pumped about his homer. How is it any different from a football player celebrating a TD or a hockey player celebrating a goal? Genuinely curious.

It's a long argument. Some don't see the difference between bat flips.

I personally think Bautista's bat could've sailed into the crowd the way it was thrown. It was definitely more "little bit©h" than most.

Odor gets eight (8) games and Bautista only one (1)?!?!?! I guess MLB figured getting your butt whipped and it being shown over and over is punishment enough.

I think the game suspensions are appropriate. While Bautistas slide was a little over the line. It was straight in and he didn't spike Odor. He probably should have been suspended 3 games but 1 is okay.

Everyone knows I have no love for Joey Bats , but if the ump had just thrown Bush out after the pitch, maybe the situation could have been tempered.

The bat flip and everything around it was silly and this was just an extension of that.

Because old white guys think it's disrespectful or not playing the game the right way or some bullshit.

I am starting to agree with the Harper's and Bautistas. Baseball should be fun and I had no issue with the bat flip, mainly because it was a huge home run in a playoff game and fired up the crowd. If baseball wants to still be relevant, stop focusing on the past so much.

The operative word being "game." It's not like it's fucking rocket surgery or holding the keys to the nuclear missiles. It's a game. If you think a person deserves to get decked in the face -- basically the textbook definition of assault and battery -- for flipping a bat, but you have no objection to a pitcher pumping his fist after a strikeout, then you're just a damn hypocrite.

Which, unfortunately, applies to probably 80 percent of sportswriters.

I agree the game needs to be fun again, and not rules-lawyered into the ground, but some guys will always take it too far. Things like rules and signs are made necessary by a few stupid individuals.

It's a shame Bill Veeck isn't around to send a midget up to bat. Maybe a modern day Disco Demolition or 10¢ Beer Night is what the game needs?

I use to go to Puerto Rico all the time, my ex-fiancee's Puerto Rican. We would go to the games there, that was some of the best baseball I've ever watched. They had awesome fields, like really nice Minor League stadiums. They played hard but with a lot of fun. A lot of talking and joking, they stole bases all the time. It didn't matter what the score was, because the other team could score 15 runs in a inning. If I could play baseball, it would be in Puerto Rico.
